SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for transporting youth to/from school, to/from the club, and on field trips according to Boys & Girls Clubs standards. Additional duties required performing facility maintenance duties during non-driving hours and being responsible for working as part of a team to supervise school age youth, ensure safety, and deliver programs and activities to members.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation

  • Operate passenger vans and/or passenger buses to transport youth on designated routes to schools and on field trips
  • Observe all applicable state transportation and federal commercial motor vehicle safety regulations and Boys & Girls Clubs transportation policies/procedures
  • Complete daily and weekly vehicle safety inspections and mileage readings according to BGC/DOT transportation policies and procedures
  • Maintain passenger attendance and supervise youth
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment and provide first aid if necessary
  • Respond to injuries and signs of illness, and follow emergency procedures
  • Complete incident reports timely and accurately per Boys & Girls Clubs policies and procedures
  • Maintain a positive relationship with supervisors, co-workers, Club members and parents
  • Demonstrate flexibility to changing priorities and assume additional duties as required
  • May participate in special outreach programs and/or events


Facility Maintenance

  • Clean the interior of buildings including floors, carpet rugs, windows, and walls
  • Disinfect commonly used items like desks, door handles, office tools and phones
  • Maintain outdoor grounds to include but not limited to removing debris and snow from sidewalks
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and vacuum, sweep, and mop floors
  • Operate floor scrubbers and other equipment
  • Notify supervisors of unsafe conditions
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Leadership & Operations

  • Assist in leading daily schedule, programs and activities with youth
  • Ensure the Club is safe, clean and attractive
  • Assist in supervision of volunteers as needed
  • Build positive relationships and resolve conflicts between members using approved youth development methods
  • Assist in planning clubs, programs and activities as needed, including preparing materials and spaces
  • Utilize data collection tools including MyClubHub to record attendance, program participation, volunteer hours, emergency contacts, etc
Requirements:

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Current Class C CDL Alaska driver’s license w/ passenger endorsement and proof of personal automobile insurance
  • Good driving record and three years driving experience
  • Must pass Dept. of Transportation medical exam, and pre-employment drug screen
  • Must pass random and post-accident drug screening as issued
  • Ability to maintain Commercial Driver's License as necessary
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to relate to children and to maintain good relations with peers
  • Consistent, dependable, enthusiastic and flexible
  • Must be able to pass a name based and fingerprint background check
  • Must be able to maintain CPR/First Aid training

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate vehicles, walk, sit, talk, see and hear. This position involves frequent repetitive motion and reaching with hands and arms. The position involves operating and conducting exterior inspections of passenger vans and buses. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a busy setting with occasional interruptions occurring, including visits from children, parents & staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outside in daily weather conditions with children. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.
