Prerequisite:
The successful candidate will have to currently be an OSP Technician – Field Services III, spent a minimum of six to nine months in the area of OSP Construction Field Services, and successfully passed the Field Services III competency test. This prerequisite is necessary to ensure the fundamentals of telecommunications delivery are instilled in the individuals pursuing a career in the area of Service Solutions. Successful candidates not possessing the field services prerequisites will be assigned to the field services group for six to nine months until they can successfully pass the competency test before moving on to a Service Solutions Tech I. Rate of pay will be equal to the position currently being held on the progression to Service Solutions I position (Field Service II, Field Service III, Service Solutions I).

As a Service Solutions Technician I, you will be in charge of providing Service Delivery (installs) and Service Assurance (repairs) to our valued customers daily. The SS Technicians are expert problem-solvers who work well under pressure and in all weather conditions. They must be analytical and enjoy working with their hands. Technicians should also be excellent communicators and enjoy challenges. In addition to these traits, we are looking for applicants with the following skillsets.

  • Work under adverse conditions (extreme heat, rain) and confined spaces 
  • Using hand and power tools such as screwdriver, butt set, cordless drills, hammer, diagnostic equipment, etc. 
  • Applies safe work practices on the job 
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions 
  • Skilled in the safe operation of motor vehicles 
  • Performs related duties as assigned
  • Knowledge in various telecommunications systems and practices
  • Basic diagnostic skills
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the positions such as standing, bending, and lifting for up to an 8-hour period

 

Candidates must show: 

  • Ability to promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners
  • Technical skills – Working knowledge of computer systems/software and computerized billing
  • Oral presentation skills – Comfortable with delivering briefings and reports to colleagues, conduct training sessions, and any other tasks related to speaking in front of an audience
  • Strong organization skills with an ability to prioritize and plan work activities, uses time efficiently, organizes or schedules other people and their tasks, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment; must be detail-oriented and accurate in work
  • Attendance/Punctuality – Consistently at work and on time for scheduled shift and department or customer scheduled meetings; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Decision-making – Makes sound, well-informed, fact-based decisions and seeks guidance when needed.

 

Here’s what you need to have:

  • Minimum HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Six (6) months of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of POTS and internet service as well as associated equipment or related industry experience
  • Knowledge of basic electricity
  • Must have and maintain current driver license
  • Must be able to operate motor vehicle with care
  • Must be able to get and maintain special passes for military, airport and other installations to meet the needs of the business and customers
  • Must have experience with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must have basic office computer skills
  • Knowledge of standard trades methods, procedures, tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of POTS and other comparable systems.
  • Ability to identify differences in wire and color codes
