POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Teacher Assistant School Counselor at La Cheim School plays a vital role in providing support to students and promoting a positive learning environment for grades 6 to 12. This position involves a range of responsibilities, including transportation, classroom assistance, behavior intervention, and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. As a Teacher Assistant School Counselor, the staff immerse themselves in a culture that helps students navigate through their mental health journey, while simultaneously supporting students to achieve academic success.


DUTIES 

  • Reporting any maintenance needs, damages, or necessary repairs to the Administrator or Coordinator, including vehicles in El Sobrante or classroom's.
  • Conducting conferences between students and staff to improve student participation.
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintaining professional behavior in all interactions with students, parents, and staff.
  • Attending all staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Ensuring that the Agency vehicle always has gas and appropriate fluids.
  • Being flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of duties.
  • Transport students and student's family in agency vehicle to and from school. 
  • Prepare and order meals for the students (breakfast and lunch)
  • Supervise students across the school setting, monitor their actions and interactions.
  • Assist in developing positive behavior interventions and plans, redirecting behavior as needed.
  • Engage with students as a positive role model, promoting a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Write daily documentation notes about student engagement using Electronic Health Record system.
  • Participate in all staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team.


REQUIREMENTS 

  •  A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services, or a related field in the behavioral health field, but it's not mandatory.
  •  Shift: Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (On-Site)
  • One (1) year of experience providing direct services in Mental Health
  • Previous experience with youth, particularly underserved populations, or in a school setting.
  • School Counseling Certification is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature
  • Intermediate-level skills in MS Office (including Excel, Word, Microsoft TEAMS, and Outlook).
  • Must have a valid Clear California Driver’s License, proof of insurance, validated car registration, and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Obtain DOJ/FBI clearance and TB test.
