Sales Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Location: Bremerton

FSLA Status: Exempt

Pay: $70K - $95K DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sales Engineer is a member of the Engineering Team and serves as a resource for the Business Development (BD) Team supporting quotes, proposals, and customer inquiries related to sales and business development. Responds quickly and efficiently to requests from the BD team for Engineering and Design related information.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides product, service, and equipment technical information in response to questions and requests from BD and customers.
  • Prepares preliminary designs and concepts with input from engineers, naval architects, and others in response to customer inquiries and requirement.
  • Prepares concept images and drawings to support BD.
  • Develops bills of material in support of product pricing efforts.
  • Writes product sales descriptions to clearly convey product form fit and function to customers.
  • Maintains strong technical knowledge of currently available marine equipment and systems.
  • Evaluates product improvements by analyzing cost‐benefit trade-offs of designs and equipment. Proposes changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services.
  • Submits boat change order recommendations to Engineering and Operations for their review and approval based upon observation or customer interaction.
  • Advises BD and customers on product, service, or equipment adherence to requirements.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Collaborates with the design, production and engineering departments of the company to determine how products or services can be made and/or modified to suit the needs of the customer.
  • Uses technical knowledge to demonstrate to potential customers the benefits of SBI products and services over those of potential competitors.
  • Represents SAFE Boats and its products to customers at field events such as conventions, conferences, etc.
  • Possesses knowledge of the most commonly used software and applications (e.g. Solid Edge, MS Office, Rhino 3D, Flamingo, AutoCAD etc.)
  • Cooperates with teams to assess and respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Must be able to convey customer technical requirements to product management teams and departments.
  • Performs design and/or engineering tasks in support of general Engineering Department workload when demand from Business Development allows.
  • Able to travel thought sales territory.

Skills:

  • Technical knowledge and understanding of high-performance aluminum boats, preferably SAFE Boats
  • Understanding of the Sales Cycle for large equipment/machines
  • Customer Service - Understanding of Customer needs and/or how to help them define them
  • Communication- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Product Development - Can take basic information and develop a concept/product
  • Presentation Skills - Comfortable presenting ideas and information in a group setting
  • Team Player - Cooperative and displaying strong leadership skills
  • Flexible - Able to respond to the needs of the department and business and flex priorities to meet deadlines, including responding to requests quickly as they occur (including outside traditional work hours if needed)

Required Experience & Education:

  • 5 or more years of experience in the design and development of naval and/or marine platforms and systems.
  • Experience with aluminum vessels preferred.
  • Strong technical ability and understanding of manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent graphic and presentation design skills.
  • Experience responding to technical RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Engineering, Drafting, and/or design degree or certifications strongly desired
  • High School Diploma (GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
