The Associate Director, Donor Engagement, The Network is an experienced development officer working to build relationships with business professionals in the Greater Washington. This development officer will drive deeper engagement and meet fundraising goals in support of philanthropic priorities. He/She/They are a go-getter who has the skills and drive to develop a donor portfolio and lay leadership pipeline that will leave a lasting impact. The Associate Director will own the sustained growth of our Real Estate Division and Family Business Group. 

 

The Associate Director, Donor Engagement, The Network is a key member of our Financial Resource Development (FRD) team, and will be responsible for:  

 

Resource Development and Portfolio Management 

  • Serve as a relationship manager to deepen and strengthen connection with donors and prospects, largely from the real estate and family business communities. 
  • Development of moves management donor pipeline with clear targets and metrics for growing donor base, with a targeted focus on real estate professionals. 
  • Strategic emphasis on donor acquisition through leveraging business connections, introductions via leadership, inventory prospecting, scheduled outreach, and post-event follow-up. 
  • Personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects, generate new and increased giving, and secure gifts through face-to-face conversations and solicitations. 
  • Support donors in their engagement and support of Federation’s Annual Campaign, Strategic Philanthropy and Planned Giving efforts.  
  • Complete face-to-face donor visits, ranging from discovery to stewardship visits. 
  • Utilize considerable initiative, independence, and responsibility to keep pace with Donor Engagement methods and techniques for relationship building and stewardship. 
  • Serve as relationship manager to other business professionals outside of the designated real estate sector, as part of collaborative development work within the Network and Donor Engagement. 
  • Work in coordination with the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Washington to maximize a donor’s impact in his/her lifetime and beyond through legacy and Donor Advised Fund opportunities.  

 Volunteer Partnership 

  • Own the leadership and direction - building and executing a lay leadership structure and pipeline – for the Real Estate Committee and Family Business Group, including management of all members and co-chairs. 
  • Work in partnership with both lay leadership groups to attract and retain new and recurring Federation donors found in these industries. 
  • Train and support lay leaders by developing strategies for committees, meetings and events, and developing appropriate written materials including annotated agendas and operational plans (timelines for projects, solicitor outreach lists). 
  • In consultation with the Director of Donor Engagement, the Network and the Co-Chairs of the Network, assist in creating a pipeline for lay leadership. 

 Engagement Opportunities 

  • Develop and implement programming, events, and immersive travel experiences that foster donors’ deeper connection to Federation and one another and further philanthropic investment and leadership goals. Programming includes large events, small gatherings, educational leadership series, and partnering with our local partner agencies.  
  • Plan and execute donor engagement opportunities as required. 

General support 

  • Partner with colleagues across the Development team including Donor Engagement, Key Relationships, and the Jewish Community Foundation and across the organization to enhance the philanthropic engagement and leadership development of donors, prospects, and lay leaders. 
  • Prioritize and ensure data accuracy and integrity of donor information in the database, including regular upkeep of information. 
  • Serve as a representative for Federation’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) principals. Work towards a Jewish future in Greater Washington that includes all Jews.  

  

Background, Qualifications and Success Factors  

  • 4-7 years of progressive experience in annual fundraising, donor engagement, sales, relationship or account management. 
  • Strong donor-relations skills: proven ability in identifying and cultivating prospects and creating strategies that lead to greater philanthropic support.  
  • Data-driven decision-maker who is comfortable with analytics and data management.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to recognize and keep up with news, trends, and thought-leadership relevant to the Greater Washington business community, especially as it relates to the real estate sector. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. 
  • Experience in management of membership or volunteer operations and working volunteer committees.  
  • First-hand knowledge of the Jewish community, its customs, and practices. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfortable with and open to new technology. 
  • Access to reliable transportation around designated territory for donor visits and events.
