POSITION SUMMARY

Pharmacy technician trainees work in a learning capacity and assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Individuals with an Ohio technician trainee or Michigan temporary technician license are enrolled in a recognized technician training program or are in the process of transferring their license from another state.

2. Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

3. Tasks are assigned according to Ohio or Michigan Board of Pharmacy restrictions as noted in OAC 4729:3-3-01 and Public Health Code 333.17739.

4. Collaborates with team members in meeting department goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with staff. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Builds trust and mutual respect.

5. Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness.

6. Maintains professional, helpful, and courteous relationships with nursing and other hospital employees, patients, and their families.

7. Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner.

8. Supports the department in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision.

9. Fosters the culture of patient safety by using the error prevention techniques.

10. Communicates effectively orally and in writing within department as well as to all external customers.

11. Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department systems.

12. Participates in creating an environment for success through team participation.


 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

License:

OHIO: Active Ohio Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee License (expires 1 year from receipt) or obtained prior to start date.

MICHIGAN: Active Temporary Pharmacy Technician License (expires 1 year from receipt) or obtained prior to start date.
