Position Summary

Provides support to nursing and physician staff in the Emergency Department by performing tasks which assist in the treatment and care of patients with illnesses or injuries, taking into account individual patient’s physical or age-related needs. The Emergency Department Technician demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to consistently provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development. Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the WVMC mission and philosophy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Advanced EMT (AEMT), Paramedic License, or EMT-Basic
  • Meets recertification and continuing education requirements according to level of certification and maintains certification without lapse.
  • Current BLS certification.

Essential Job Functional

  • Provides direct personal care under the supervision of the nurse within the scope of practice of the Certified Nursing Assistant II and Emergency Department Technician
  • Participates as a contributory member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Completes all documentation within departmental requirements and timelines.
  • Participates in the responsible management of all departmental/hospital resources.
  • Works with the ED team to maintain equipment and supplies and adequate inventory levels.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting annual in-service requirements and ongoing personal development.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Electronic medical records software
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Creativity, problem analysis and decision making
  • Ability to work varied shifts
  • IV start and/or phlebotomy
