Student Nurse Technician - Acute Care - PRN

Under the supervision of an RN, the Student Nurse will perform a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living, which are tailored based on completed semesters in their clinical program.

• Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, daily weights, and recording input/output measures. All data will be recorded timely and accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Provides ongoing assessments to determine the nursing care requirements using the nursing process. Assessments include physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of the past and present state of health.
• Answers call lights, performs hourly rounding, and attend to/reports patients’ needs to the Registered Nurse. Performs designated sterile and aseptic procedures using proper technique (i.e., venipuncture and phlebotomy, IV insertions, and foley insertions) under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Minimum Education
The Nursing Student must have completed one semester of clinicals and be enrolled in an accredited nursing program at the Associate or Bachelor level.
Experience with nursing fundamentals in lab and/or clinical setting as evidenced by completed nursing fundamentals skill check-off.
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Skills
Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications is required (may be obtained the week of orientation)

Minimum Work Experience
1 year of experience as a nurse assistant, clinical services technician or other clinical position in a hospital setting is preferred.
