Manager, Coding Quality & Education- Remote

What you’ll do: 

As a Manager, Coding Quality & Education you are responsible for providing oversight and day-to-day management of the processes related to the medical record reviews to monitor and audit functions that test and confirm clinical compliance with regulatory requirements and with the organization's written policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, overall responsibility for the planning, administration, control, and quality management of Coding Quality & Education Department activities in addition to regular reporting of department progress and initiatives to HSC leadership.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for oversight of the coder monitoring and education program to prevent and detect potential coding, billing, and payment errors.
  • Develops and manages direct reports; and oversees the development and management of indirect reports
  • Directs the department monitoring program that determines the accuracy of the code assignment by comparing the services provided, documented, and billed and educate department and hospital staff on proper coding, billing and documentation standards and rules.
  • Plan daily operations of the department in conjunction with the AVP of HIM Operations and participates in development of objectives to meet KPI’s.
  • Direct and maintains adequate staffing and workflow to meet the department needs.
  • Monitor various reports and productivity to ensure department objectives are met. 
  • Interview, hire, provide leadership, counseling, training for employees in areas of responsibility. 
  • Ensure new employees are oriented and trained in all job functions.
  • Perform counseling both verbal and written for employees requiring additional assistance as evidenced by communication in the personnel file.
  • Monitor and supervise coding quality review engagement scheduling and progress of reviews; propose modifications as necessary to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Prepare and present audit summaries to the Health Support Center (HSC) operations leadership team as well as divisional and enterprise leadership as required.
  • Develop and execute ongoing education/training based on findings of ongoing coding quality audits for hospital staff, leadership, and colleagues regarding coding in adherence
  • Serving as a resource regarding, policies/procedures/practices and identify areas of improvement/education through data collection, analysis, and reports.
  • Oversees and participates in performing hospital coding compliance audits and other projects related to coding compliance.
  • Undertake continuous education courses to maintain knowledge base, auditing, and management skills consistent with the organization's and department's professional development requirements and individual credentials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 


What you’ll need: 

Education: Associate's Degree or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience: 5+ yrs. experience in auditing or coding, with 3 years’ specific experience in hospital/clinical coding management 

Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Documentation Improvement Practioner (CDIP), or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) Certification preferred.
