Fabrication Cost Accountant

This is a safety-sensitive position.

Position Summary:

The Shelbyville Fabrication cost accountant is a key leader for the plant. The individual will understand all areas of plant financial performance and maintain effective internal controls to enable accurate financial statements as part of the OE business. The plant cost accountant is responsible for ensuring publication of daily and weekly core production performance data, assists the plant Finance Group Leader with forecasts, and owns the plant standard costing process that is critical for part profitability and inventory management of parts across the OENA regional network. The individual will also help the site quantify and develop continuous improvement / savings opportunities (OCS) that help Shelbyville advance its competitive market position.

Interaction with all aspects of the business to achieve these ends would be expected, including but not limited to Finance, Purchasing, HR, Commercial, Operations and Manufacturing.

Primary Duties:

• Maintain and administer cost accounting system for Shelbyville location plus other US locations when required, including outsourced Advanced Assembly operations.
• Work on projects or act as backup for various locations when required
• Assist Group Cost Accounting Manager / OE Commercial Controller with various projects or audit requests.
• Assist with development of annual budget & forecasts with an emphasis on annual standard costs.
• Prepare various financial and operations reports including standard costs variance analyses, weekly staff reporting, departmental variance and cost tracking report & loading into consolidation software.
• Assist with month end-end closing including analysis and journal entry preparation.
• Support local Materials Group functions related to inventory control, physical inventory, working capital variance reporting, and accounts payable auditing.
• Completion of G/L account reconciliations and other basic accounting functions.
• Interacts with plant personnel to achieve greater understanding of product costs.
• Assists Shelbyville Fabrication Finance Group Leader in developing and monitoring internal control procedures for the safeguarding of company assets.
• Conduct all business affairs and relationships in adherence to the NSG Standards of Business conduct.
• Provide support for cost reduction/suggestion system projects.
• Administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications Required:

• Related University degree or College Diploma in Finance or Accounting
• Working knowledge of inventory and accounting systems, understanding of cost absorption, standard costing, GAAP, and SOX.
• Strong PC and mainframe skills (especially MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word).
• Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and writing skills along with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ensure availability during close and budget process

Qualifications Desired:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Accounting/Finance Area or equivalent.
• Two or more years’ experience in plant manufacturing including accounting supervision and exposure to a variety of material control functions.
• MBA and / or CPA
• These not required, but will sponsor CPA application to take CPA while in role.

Travel:

• Travel is minimal with some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected (<5% annually). The travel is subject to change due to changing business conditions and may increase from time-to-time due to required needs in other plants.
