This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Industrial Technology Faculty who will be all-in on our mission and who will teach courses in Industrial Technology Programs including Industrial Technology core classes and specialization courses in Electrotechnical, Instrumentation, Renewable Energy and HVAC areas. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, tech-supported, or online courses and in immediate preparation for respective courses, maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Associate’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Instrumentation Technician or related field. High quality work experience and professional certifications may substitute for education requirements.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Instrumentation Technician or related field. High quality work experience and professional certifications may substitute for education requirements.

EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in business and industry.
  • Preferred: Experience teaching at a college level.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach Industrial Technology courses as assigned each semester. Courses may be scheduled during mornings, afternoons, or evenings.
  • Perform teaching activities, including classroom instructions, directing projects, grading classroom and lab assignments, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
  • Plan, develop, and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved outlines.
  • Develop curriculum and prepare syllabus i.e., determine course content that is consistent with the catalog description.
  • Select instructional materials (textbooks).
  • Participate in faculty renewal and development programs.
  • Attend briefings on procedures, advising, registration, and general policy.
  • Assist with registrations and participate in recruitment activities.
  • Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels.
  • Complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with and motivate students and demonstrate excellent teaching skills.
  • Ability to work well with a team or independently.
  • Ability to follow industrial safety standards.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Ability to repair machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical electrical machines and systems.
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills, including computer skills sufficient for email, course development and course management.
  • Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge or servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or mechanical principles.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
