Locally operated from its headquarters in Germantown, Md., Minkoff is a family owned real estate firm that offers services spanning development, construction, management and leasing. We're seeking a Property Accountant to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and performance of our properties.


RESPONSIBILITIES / WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports for owners, property managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor property performance, identify variances, and provide insights to property management teams.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Accounting on investor/owner/partner and lender reporting.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Work with property managers to develop and maintain accurate budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget adherence and identify variances for proactive decision-making.
  • Provide regular updates and analysis to support informed financial planning.

Expense Tracking and Reporting:

  • Meticulously track and record expenses, ensuring proper classification and allocation.
  • Prepare periodic expense reports and contribute to cost control initiatives.

Lease Management:

  • Ensure accurate lease data entry and maintenance in Yardi software.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform peer reviews of budgets and other property reports.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly/annual lender reports.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and record monthly journal entries.
  • Review lease documents and collaborate on annual adjustment billings.
  • Monitor and process invoices for timely payment and accurate coding.
  • Assist with property tax payments and management.
  • Generate financial reports for property management.

Qualifications / What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (required).
  • 1-2 years of experience in property accounting or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferences:

  • Experience with real estate accounting best practices.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Team player with a positive and proactive attitude.
