Summary

Role Mission

The Principal role is for transformational school leaders who desire to change the educational landscape for thousands of children. They are believers and fighters committed to giving children - no matter their socioeconomic background, ethnicity, or neighborhood they reside in - the tools needed to reach their full potential. Together with the Managing Director of Schools, Principals spend the day ensuring that no matter what, our students are in an environment where they will develop good character, be challenged academically, and succeed on their road to and through college.

Principals play a crucial role as leaders of educational systems, overseeing the management of personnel and guiding teachers to enhance their skills while leading their teams towards the attainment of ambitious objectives with students. Their primary focus lies in promoting excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, instilling these values not only in the staff but also in the students. By effectively leading their schools, principals strive to implement Kairos’ vision of supporting students to direct their own lives.

K-12 educational leaders who demonstrate...

  • A belief that all students can be successful in whatever path they choose
  • At least years in a role where you spent significant time coaching and developing teachers and leaders on instructional quality.  some of your time focused on instructional leadership/management of adults (likely a mid-level leadership role in a school, such as an instructional coach, grade level leader, etc).
  • Desire to launch and/or lead a school in one of our new or existing regions
  • At least three years of K-12 teaching experience with students from historically underrepresented backgrounds
  • Experience leading a team  
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership experience with proven results
  • A clear understanding of data and how to use it to drive instructional outcomes for scholars 
  • A receptiveness and hunger for feedback
  • Skill using instructional technology

Responsibilities

School Culture 

Establishing the direction of the school culture and establishing and managing comprehensive systems throughout the entire school to ensure that this vision is realized. It will be your duty to ensure that all assistant principals and teachers possess the necessary skills to foster positive relationships with students, establish efficient classroom routines and procedures, reinforce desirable behaviors, and consistently and effectively address misbehaviors. You will support the creation and implementation of a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense of community, aligned with Kairos’ Restorative Justice model. Additionally, you will provide guidance and training to teachers to help them excel in these areas, and you will mentor and develop other leaders to ensure that they can effectively carry out these responsibilities as part of your leadership team.

Instruction

Designating and upholding effective instructional systems within the school, ensuring that all teachers fully comprehend the curriculum and how to use the Summit learning platform, provide exemplary instruction, and analyze data to make informed decisions for enhancing student learning. Additionally, you will mentor and cultivate other instructional leaders to achieve the same objectives while leading your instructional team in executing these initiatives.

Operations 

Overseeing the functioning of the school, guaranteeing a secure and inviting environment working with the Director of Operations. Additionally, you will provide guidance and supervision to the Student Recruitment & Enrollment Manager, ensuring they achieve targets related to student enrollment and daily attendance. Moreover, you will mentor and cultivate the assistant principals’ skills in effective leadership and personnel management, enabling them to effectively lead their operations team and achieve desired outcomes.

Family Engagement 

Collaborating with other Kairos team members to implement strong systems for family engagement and communication, including both new family onboarding and ongoing family engagement. You will ensure families receive regular communication about their child’s progress and school events, and that staff engage them as key partners in the education of their child. To do so, you will establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify.

Staff Culture and Talent Management

Making strategic hiring, retention and promotion decisions, building systems for fostering a strong staff culture, and coaching other leaders to do the same. You will also build and maintain strong systems for coaching and management so that all staff members receive excellent coaching and are held accountable for meeting high expectations in service of our students.

Campus Budget

Planning how to use your campus discretionary funds to achieve your campus priorities and driving goals. You will collaborate with other Kairos team members to ensure your campus discretionary budget is managed strategically throughout the year. 

Compliance

Completing all required annual compliance training, implementing systems to ensure that staff members and the campus remain in compliance with all applicable laws and policies, and coaching other leaders to do the same so you can drive this work through others.

Technology Skills 

Competence in Microsoft Office applications and ability to use a variety of computer applications and platforms. Ability to use basic office equipment. Knowledge and experience in using a computer-based Student Information Management system.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree preferred
  • Missouri Substitute Certification Required
  • 3+ years of successful full-time teaching experience preferred
  • Experience being an assistant principal preferred 
  • At least two years of successful full-time instructional leadership experience (assistant principal, instructional coach, dean, etc.) preferred
  • Proven track record of personally achieving success and of leading others to improved results Required
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Compensation

The salary for this position is very competitive and commensurate with experience. The Principal salary range is between $100,000-130,000- This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment. Kairos also offers a relocation stipend to defray the cost for individuals hired (if applicable). Schedule:

  • In-person teaching Monday through Friday 7:30am 4:00pm 
    • Some weekends and evenings will be required. 

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Saint Louis, MO 63118: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required). Please note, this is not a remote position. All Kairos teachers are required to deliver in-person instruction onsite, in our school in St. Louis.
