Our client base includes the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Marine, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Guard Bureau, Federal Aviation Administration, as well as various state, municipal and commercial entities.

We have an immediate need for an on-site Project Scientist in Fort Novosel, a United States Army Installation near Enterprise, Alabama. The Project Scientist is responsible for providing day-to-day environmental compliance support for the Environmental Branch of the Directorate of Public Works. Primary duties of the successful candidate will be performing compliance inspections of installation organizations, environmental media sampling and conducting in-person quarterly environmental training classes for installation civilian and military personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead installation-wide annual multi-media environmental audits to include air quality, RCRA, SPCC, CWA and other regulatory programs, as provided in an installation specific checklist.
  • Prepare to update the check-list items as regulations change and be motivated to research items on the checklist and understand requirements.
  • Prepare outbrief reports, summarize findings of inspections.
  • Conduct environmental training courses quarterly utilizing existing training slides.
  • Update and prepare training materials as needed in cooperation with site supervisor and government program managers.
  • Track training participant information and provide quarterly updates to applicable government representatives.
  • Conduct hazardous waste characterization sampling, asbestos and lead sampling, stormwater sampling and drinking water sampling as needed and directed by site supervisor and government program managers.
  • Work closely and maintain effective communication with other contractor and government team members and managers.
  • Assist as needed in preparing and updating environmental plans and reports.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be added commensurate with increased knowledge and experience.
  • This is an on-site position of a professional nature in an office and field environment located within a large military installation. The successful candidate will be expected to interact professionally at all times with individuals of varying education levels and responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the physical or natural sciences required. A degree in Environmental Science, or related is preferred.
  • (3) years of relevant work experience in environmental compliance is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships with clients, internal staff/departments, and outside agencies.
  • Flexible to adapt to evolving project requirements, changing regulations and client requests.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion with sensitive data.
  • The ability to effectively speak in front of crowds of up to 25 people.
  • Prior public speaking experience or training in a classroom-type setting is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications (e.g., Excel™, Word™, PowerPoint™, etc.).
  • Ability to solve moderately complex problems independently.
  • Strong attention to detail, and organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations and have no criminal record.
  • US Citizenship required.

  • The average salary range for this position is between $55,000 to $70,000 and will be based on factors such as experience, education, and geographical location.
