We are in need of substitute bus drivers who are willing to transport elementary children between our center and local elementary schools for before and after school care. If you are looking for aflexible schedule, positive driving record, and are excited to engage with kids at the beginning and end of their school days, we would love to meet you. This position is on-call and as needed, and you would be paid a lump sum for each day you drive as is outlined below:

Morning Route
Hours: 7:30am to 9:00am
Pay: $35

Afternoon Route
Hours: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Pay: $40

Morning/Afternoon Route
Hours: 7:30am to 9:00am AND 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Pay: $75

All necessary training hours, staff meetings, or other hours worked that are not spent driving will be paid at a rate of $12 an hour. If you would be interested in driving on a consistent schedule, let us know so that we can talk to you about potential hourly rates.

Duties

  • Provide coverage for drivers who are unable to be present at the center due to scheduled time off, unexpected illness, or other emergencies.
  • Regularly check buses for safety concerns.
  • Ensure that buses are kept clean and lost and found is taken inside daily.
  • Work a flexible schedule assigned weekly by center administrators and maintain availability to come into the center to cover driver call-outs due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Refill gas on the buses before or after routes, as needed.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with the children on your routes and coworkers.


Requirements

Driving Experience and Record Requirements:- Driver should have a minimum of 3 years driving experience and be at least 21 years old.
- Drivers who have had a suspension for a minor violation in the last 3 years areNOTeligible.
- Drivers who have had a suspension for one of the following in the last 5 years of the following are NOT eligible:
  • Improper passing
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving with unknown or uninspected equipment
  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license
  • Driving under the influence (DUI)
  • Driving while intoxicated (DWI)
  • Leaving the scene of an accident or incident
- Driving record may reflect NO MORE THAN:
  • One (1) at fault accident within the past year
  • One (1) at fault accident and one (1) moving traffic violation in the past three (3) years
  • One (1) minor moving traffic violation in the past year
  • Two (2) minor moving traffic violations in the past three (3) years
  • One (1) major speeding violation in the past two (2) years

Other Requirements:
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to be certified through our center.
  • Willingness to complete required training in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to pass a full background check.
  • Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors.
  • Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.

  • Of good character and reputation.
  • Capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Capable of accepting training and supervision.
  • Capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job responsibility.


Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Experience with driving large vehicles or transporting large groups of children is preferred.
  • MAT certified and/or SAFE certified is a plus!
