Position Description

The Driver operates a YMCA van/ bus and responsible for the direct supervision, transportation and safety of YMCA participants and equipment. This position assists the Program Director with the completion of desired results and assisting in maintaining program quality standards for the program. The driver is responsible for routine maintenance and inspection of the designated vehicle. The driver is a positive adult role model who ensures the safety of passengers at all times in a nurturing environment. Should be available beginning June 1, 2024 through August 16, 2024.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Class B driver's license, with passenger endorsements, motor vehicle record which meets Association Transportation Policy, current First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in the operation of vehicles and safe driving practices, experience working with children
  • Strong character values, communication skills, emotional maturity, ability to read and understand maps and written instructions
  • Must adhere to Association Transportation Drug & Alcohol Substance Abuse Testing Policy requirements

Responsibilities

1. Safely transport passengers and equipment as assigned by supervisor during assigned routes and schedules to and from Camp.
2. Practice safe and defensive operation of vehicle in accordance with the Association Transportation Policy.
3. Maintain effective communication with site staff
4. Conduct vehicle inspections as required by Association Transportation Policy. Immediately report deficiencies to supervisor or branch Transportation Coordinator.
5. Report all vehicle and passenger accidents to your supervisor promptly and comply with Association reporting procedures.
6. Maintain discipline on the vehicle at all times.
7. Prepare reports and maintain records including daily log, check-out and mileage sheets, student/family information and records, as needed.
8. Assist passengers in and out of the vehicle, as needed.
9. Take responsibility for the daily maintenance and repair of YMCA vehicles in terms of cleanliness (interior and exterior), fluid levels, minimum standards and fuel at tank minimum.
10. Monitor vehicle registration, first aid supplies and fire extinguisher and report upcoming expirations and/or deficiencies to supervisor.
11. Immediately report any accidents, injuries, travel mishaps or occurrences with other vehicles, drivers, pedestrians, staff and/or parents to supervisor and branch Transportation Coordinator.
12. Perform a documented vehicle inspection prior to each operation of the vehicle.
13. Be responsible for the safety, health and welfare of all passengers during the loading, transit and unloading of the vehicle.
14. Adhere to all YMCA, Federal and California State laws and policies relating to the transportation of passengers.
15. Work closely with YMCA Directors in maintaining and improving transportation safety standards.
16. Never leave passengers in vehicle unattended.
17. Immediately report any tickets received during operation of YMCA vehicle.
18. Maintain vehicle in clean and safe condition through regular maintenance activities.
19. Take responsibility for reporting any mechanical problems to supervisor immediately and assisting as needed.
20. Supervise a group of program participants, when needed.
21. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
22. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management
23. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff
