Brief Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Teacher to join our Montessori program. You will work closely with the other elementary teachers to provide a nurturing and enriching environment for our students in grades 1-6. You will assist in implementing the Montessori curriculum, promote the social and emotional development of children, and support their individual learning needs. The ideal candidate should have genuine love for working with young children.


Montessori School of Greater Lafayette is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization accredited by the American Montessori Society. Located in West Lafayette, IN, we have served the community for over 50 years and offer school year and summer camp programs for children from infants through 6th grade. MSGL’s facilities offer children an immersive indoor and outdoor environment for learning and growing. Our experienced and dedicated staff help the child develop an awareness of themselves and the world around them. The child works and learns in an atmosphere of balanced independence and structure within a mixed-age group setting.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high standard of care and teaching to students during school hours, including vigilance around both safety and learning
  • Prepare lessons in collaboration with their Upper Elementary teaching partner and the Upper Elementary Team in the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Montessori School of Greater Lafayette, its mission, and Montessori philosophy
  • Prepare, update and share weekly lesson plans with teaching partner
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps as needed in conjunction with their Upper Elementary teaching partner, Upper Elementary Team, and Executive Director.
  • Prepare annual statement of goals and objectives for professional development and evaluation
  • Be available during school hours to advise parents
  • Be in attendance at school in accordance with the times set forth in the letter of agreement
  • Maintain a “prepared” environment in the classroom and other areas used for instruction
  • Maintain student records with regard to attendance, achievement, and report-writing
  • Prepare reports for parents in accordance with the established policies of the Montessori School of Greater Lafayette.
  • Prepare for and participate in regular parent-teacher conferences as set forth on the school calendar
  • Participate in regularly scheduled day trips with students
  • Attend and participate in various evening meetings, such as Open House, Parent Education, and Community events
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled program-level, faculty, and faculty and staff meetings
  • Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
  • Comply with the established policies and procedures of Montessori School of Greater Lafayette as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
  • Model as fully as possible the values in the Montessori School of Greater Lafayette Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community Norms
  • Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Executive Director.


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent education
  • AMS/MACTE approved teaching credential preferred.
  • Credentialed by the American Montessori Society (AMS) or Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) for the appropriate Elementary age level, or ability to complete training immediately
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred.
