Directors at Dentons Global Advisors are the backbone of our teams and lead the development and implementation of government relations strategies for our clients on a day-to-day basis. They have an understanding of U.S. legislative processes and related stakeholders, and experience communicating about policy impacts, including to media. They have experience leveraging various strategies and tools to advance a client’s business position, including digital outreach, online and traditional media and coalition building. They manage junior team members’ work and learn to be trusted client counselors by engaging around business-critical matters in a fast-paced environment. They are excellent project managers, skilled writers and editors, collaborative teammates with extensive experience overseeing content development and making the trains run on time. Our team operates a flat organizational structure and relies on our directors to work collaboratively with a group of global experts and across a number of critical engagements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Help leading companies and multinational organizations navigate significant threats to their enterprise value and reputation, including major legislative or regulatory change
  • Work in teams that may include U.S. government relations professionals, legal experts from DGA’s partner firm, Dentons, and members of our international offices
  • Serve as a primary project manager and oversee junior team’s work product on simultaneous engagements that are complex and multi-jurisdictional
  • Map and coordinate with external stakeholders, including DC-based think tanks, trade organizations and NGOs, to deliver impactful solutions for clients
  • Turn ‘big picture’ strategies for managing complex issues into actionable plans
  • Drive content development and strategy that effectively advocates for a client’s business position
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact on sensitive matters
  • Manage matters with senior support, and help drive engagement objectives
  • Manage DGA team members, support team members’ professional development and work to identify additional development opportunities
  • Run firm development initiatives and certain client workstreams with limited supervision

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent and relevant work experience; sector expertise a plus
  • 6+ years of experience in government affairs, advocacy campaigns, politics/government, strategic communications and/or from a consultancy or relevant in-house position, or the capabilities of someone of that level of experience
  • Experience working in or with teams in government or similar policy or external relations roles
  • Experience working with media and/or online content
  • Highly collaborative working style

  • Contribute to and drive government relations strategy for clients
  • Develop junior talent and provide support and mentorship to junior team members
  • Collaborate with wider DGA colleagues in other offices and with Dentons lawyers

  • Effectively utilize research and innovative tools to the benefit of clients and the team
