Bookstore Clerk

Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a bookstore clerk in our retail operation who shares our goal of providing a welcoming shopping experience while producing measurable profit as a return on investment and advancing the Covenant College brand. The individual is tasked with becoming knowledgeable about our lines of retail products which are offered for sale to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, including course materials, college branded merchandise, and various sundries.


Essential Functions:

  1. Provide excellent customer service to all guests in-person, via telephone and online; operate cash register and fulfill online orders
  2. Optimize Tuck Shoppe presence on social media platforms; post regularly to social media accounts and implement marketing strategies in line with the supervisor's vision
  3. Photograph products for online store and social media
  4. Maintain accurate inventory numbers; monitor inventory on a weekly/monthly basis
  5. Communicate with supervisor regarding product feedback and product requests
  6. Keep all areas of the store environment neat, clean, organized and stocked; assist in providing general store cleaning (sweeping, dusting and straightening shelves, displays and register areas)
  7. Receive inventory in alignment with store procedures
  8. Keep back room and storage room clean and neat
  9. Prepare products for retail sale, including folding and tagging garments
  10. Assist in training and developing student workers; ensure store policies and procedures are followed
  11. Assist in scheduling
  12. Assist in preparation of daily reports
  13. Assist with special events and extra hours; occasional evening and weekend work may be required
  14. Create store signs and shelf labels; refresh displays
  15. Greet customers and answer phones to provide information, direct callers and resolve issues
  16. Other job duties as assigned

  2. Ability to effectively interact with various constituencies of the college, both internal and external.
  3. Good decision making skills and independent judgment.
  4. Excellent attention to detail.
  5. Strong initiative to complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree
  • Some retail sales and/or marketing experience
  • Proficiency using Google Apps and Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

Physical Work Environment:

  • This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily in a professional office and retail environment using standard office and store sales equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, cash registers, credit card readers, pricing machines and other job-related tools and technology.
  • There is a mix of standing and sitting for this particular role. Individual will often remain in a stationary position 50% of the work day.
  • Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 20 lbs. and moving items and boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
  • Generally, full-time staff days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Travel is not required for this position.
