JOB PURPOSE:   Maintains building operations in the Cumberland County jail complex by directing and controlling maintenance and custodial functions, including supervising employees.  Hours are primarily day shift, however, the selected candidate will need to periodically be on-call for maintenance related after hours needs. The position is a 40-hour-a-week position, with a full benefits package. Pay commensurate with qualifications and experience with a range of $27.69-28.81 per hour.  Please note, applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • A minimum of five years working in the maintenance field.
  • General knowledge of carpentry, masonry, sheet rock, electricity, and plumbing required.
  • Experience with locking systems, door controls, lighting control systems, HVAC systems, and closed-circuit television.
  • A minimum of one year working in a supervisory / people management role.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education to be considered.
KEY EXPECTED RESULTS:
  1. Provides building maintenance services by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against standards; making necessary adjustments. 
  2. Ensures operation of equipment by developing and enforcing preventative maintenance programs; studying manufacturer’s instructions; establishing repair and installation policies and procedures; trouble-shooting malfunctions; coordinating trades people; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques; recommending equipment purchases and replacements; purchasing minor equipment.
  3. Identifies management and employee concerns by surveying environmental, operational and occupational conditions. 
  4. Determines service, equipment and personnel requirements by conducting inspections. 
  5. Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and operationally sound building. 
  6. Achieves financial objectives by assisting in the preparation of a building maintenance annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. 
  7. Completes building maintenance operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results. 
  8. Maintains building maintenance staff by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.  This includes establishing the on-call coverage for the complex and is an active participant. 
  9. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements including safety by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  10. Assures security by maintaining inventory records of all jail complex keys, locks, tools, and equipment etc.
  11. Maintains the safe condition of the complex parking lots and roadways by removing snow, sanding, etc.  This also is the “Snow Boss” during winter operations.
  12. Assures quality work by overseeing all contractors work done to any of the jail complex buildings.
  13. Maintains professional, supervisory and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  14. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  15. Demonstrates an understanding of the county’s safety policies and practices by attending required safety programs; reporting all accidents and suspected safety hazards to supervisor.
  16. Fulfills job function by participating as an active member in training; participating on county task forces and performing other responsibilities as assigned.
  17. Maintains accreditation records and procedures of Jail.
