KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts thorough investigations of safety incidents and near misses, determines probable cause, makes recommendations for corrective action, and facilitates proper resolution.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and participates in all workplace safety forums and branch leadership meetings.
  • Manages the employee drug testing program and maintains related records.
  • Attends training and conducts self-study to stay current on all federal, state, and local regulations that impact the business, and ensures the Company remains in compliance with all employer requirements.
  • Updates the safety software with investigations, completed training sessions, and corrective actions and RCA’s.
  • Analyzes training records to determine continuing education needs, and once approved, coordinates and/or conducts training as appropriate.
  • Provides key insights to hazard identification through hazard recognition, review of RCA’s and site safety plans written by the field.
  • Provides Leadership of safety program standards through regular, in-person job site visits, and the completion of at least two (2) detailed job site safety audits a week.
  • Compiles and presents a branch safety report to the CEO, President, and CFO on a monthly basis.
  • Assembles and submits updated safety-related budget forecasts on an as needed basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates 50% of the time in a professional office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
  • The other 50% is spent performing work tasks at local job sites and warehouses, during which the incumbent will likely utilize tools (ladders, aerial/scissor lifts, confined space multi-gas meters, etc.), and be intermittently exposed to the conditions and/or hazards typically associated with a construction site.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • S/he may occasionally be required to climb, crouch, kneel, stoop, feel, and grasp.
  • This is considered a medium work position, which means possible exertion of up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to thirty (30) pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

TRAVEL:

  • This position may require up to 60% travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of applicable industry experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and construction laws.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse employee and client populations.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize,and stay flexible while meeting deadlines and goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in occupational health or related field.
  • Previous training experience in an office and/or field environment.
  • Qualified for Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Trench & Excavation.
  • OSHA 500 Construction/501 Trainer Certification.
  • Experience with a general or controlling contractor.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification.
