JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Sales Manager performs specialized sales work with responsibility to promote South Padre Island with the express purpose of increasing tours, travel and convention sales within the island. Further, the Senior Sales Manager directs and conducts sales activities to the meeting and convention segment of travel industry; assists in the development and implementation and execution of the sales objectives and budget designed to promote tourism to the Island with meeting planners and local business leaders; sells the Island as the ideal destination to the assigned state, regional and national accounts with the expressed purpose of increasing the meetings and conventions business; increases hotel occupancy and hotel tax revenue by securing new accounts and seeking/exceeding profitability; and .  drives the sales of the destination to compete nationally with conventions and events

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists and mentors the CVB Sales Managers to increase their sales results measured by room nights produced and actualized.
  • Conduct proactive sales efforts through prospecting and building relationships through various methods; including, but not limited to phone solicitation, sales calls or visits and appointments, meetings, email prospecting and other lead generating methods.
  • Grows client and account base both in securing new accounts, penetrating existing accounts and optimizing revenue potential and profitability.
  • Coordinates with the CVB Marketing Department to prepare group media buys, collateral materials and webpage design.
  • Manages direct sales efforts of market assigned by Director of Sales
  • Becomes proficient in SimpleView CRM software and additional software applications supporting the CVB.
  • Builds proposal, block sheets and contracts for groups and conventions
  • Responsible for the collection of bids from hotels for potential and established clients.
  • Responsible for meeting sales goals established by the Executive Director and Director of Sales.
  • Conducts site inspections, familiarization tours, sales blitzes, state sponsored events, and follow up with prospects.
  • Develops relationships with identified entities who may be interested in hosting meetings at South Padre Island Convention Centre or hotels.
  • Develops creative sales techniques, ideas and solutions.
  • Prepares and presents oral presentations, as needed, to conventions, organizations and meetings about the City of South Padre Island.
  • Works independently with little direction to meet deadlines and schedules, plan and organize work; prepare and maintain files, records and reports.
  • Collaborates with internal team in creation and execution of marketing and partner relation events designed to improve relationships and enhance quality and growth of the destination and professionals within the community.
  • Responsible for assessing situations and developing strategies to achieve desired results.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with fellow employees, Board members, City officials, hospitality partners and other outside agencies and the public.
  • Administers special projects and other duties as requested by the Director.
  • Responds to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen and vendor inquiries and complaints.
  • Responsible for representing the City in a professional manner to create a positive image for the City.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of new trends and innovations in the tourism and convention industry.
  • Represent the City of South Padre Island in area, regional and state organizations when assigned and attend national market shows, meetings and conventions promoting the island as a top destination.

 

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

FISCAL BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

  • Responsible for adhering to all City of South Padre Island Purchasing Policies while performing purchasing tasks.
  • Responsible for adhering to all City of South Padre Island Travel Policies while traveling for City business.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with coursework in marketing, tourism, hospitality or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of related work experience in marketing tourism and hospitality industry implementing sales and marketing activities, successfully,; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, equivalency to be determined by the City.
  • Significant experience in the public sector, with an emphasis on local government issues a plus.

 

 

Licenses or Certifications:

  • A valid state driver’s license.

Special Requirements:

  • Bilingual: Spanish and English preferred.
  • Work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency and/or disaster situations.

Personal laptop computer to include specialized software; calculator; copy and fax machine; printer; telephone; automobile; and cellular phone.

The work environment requires the employee to be in outside conditions for short periods of time frequently throughout the day where the employee may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wet, windy or humid conditions. This position requires frequent travel usually by vehicle or air. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet or very noisy depending on the location. This position offices at the SPI Convention Centre. This position will be provided a laptop, cell phone allowance and car allowance for business purposes.
