Job Description
General Summary
Hold authority and responsibility for the site Health & Safety Program. Coordinate, direct, and promote Health & Safety initiatives on site to assure continual improvement. Focus on achieving measurable results in reducing both the frequency and cost of injuries and incidents. Accomplish this by partnering with operations management in implementing effective and practical solutions that lead to a culture where Health & Safety is not compromised.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the Project Manager and the Jobsite management’s requirement to safely deliver quality services.
- Administer the company’s Health & Safety Program locally; including site Accident Prevention Plans; Activity Hazard Analyses; Position Hazard Analyses; and other site-specific plans, procedures, and policies.
- Manage and Conduct Training, to ensure employees understand hazards associated with site conditions and activities and methods to mitigate those hazards.
- Audit and inspect site conditions and activities; initiate corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness of actions taken.
- Provide guidance and oversight of an employee comprised safety committee.
- Lead incident investigations with affected supervisor, assuring actionable causes of incidents are acted on by managers and supervisors and verifying the effectiveness of actions taken.
- Report activities, findings, incidents and investigations, and site OSHA statistics to the Corporate Health & Safety Officer (CHSO) and the site Project Manager.
- Keep abreast of developments in health and safety practices and legislation; acting upon changes accordingly.
- Liaise with client and other team organizations on health and safety issues
- Other duties as assigned by the CHSO or Project Manager
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements
- Five years’ experience in Health & Safety management in similar operations; or three years’ experience and a Certified Safety Professional or Associates Degree in Safety Sciences.
- OSHA 30 Hour Construction or General Industry Certification.
- Ability to develop and establish Health & Safety policies, plans, and procedures
- Demonstrated skills in objective problem-solving and decision-making
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Auditing skills and experience
- Presentation, written, and oral communication skills sufficient for large groups and executive staff
- Continuing safety education and certifications preferred
- Understanding of Environmental Services operations
- Understanding of health care settings and safety related issues within those organizations
Working Conditions
Occasional and/or light lifting required--limited exposure to elements
Work Environment
- Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.
- Physical demands include intermittent sitting, standing, and walking, and occasional bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Occasional and/or light lifting required--limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
