PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform general/specialized work functions associated with providing effective and efficient services to ensure a safe atmosphere to Convention Center clients, customers and the public. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in a professional and courteous manner with peers, guests, clients and other authority personnel in reference to events and their location, time schedules, and entry requirements. Communication in person or by use of telephone.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Controls entry and traffic access to facility, assist with informing and enforcing policies and procedures of facility to patrons and vendors.

Assist with crowd control during heavily attended events.

Provides hospitality while assisting visitors, giving directions, information on accommodations, tradeshows and public events. Collects and controls parking fees.

Patrols area to prevent disorderly conduct, rowdiness, or to detect other infractions of rules. Assist patrons with questions regarding events and exhibit hall locations, local attractions and locations throughout the City. Patrols tradeshows and conventions during operating and non-operating hours to ensure unauthorized access and or theft. Maintains daily activity log reports, prepare incident reports for accidents, personal injury or theft. Ability to provide limited first aid and assistance to individuals.

Assigned to the Convention Center Administration office temporarily to work the front desk, answer and expedite incoming phone calls, greet and direct visitors and clients. Responsible for performing front office duties and responsibilities. Secures facility during non-operating hours including, but not limited to, shutting down of equipment, closing and locking of doors, turning on or off lighting and patrol of interior and exterior of building.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Must be willing to respond to customer needs and complaints in a professional manner. May be assigned to work in the loading dock area receiving, expediting and signing for small freight shipments to the facility. Performs other related duties as requested, required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age; Have a high school diploma or GED; must have strong customer service skills. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, must be dependable and willing to work a variety of schedules, including holidays, days, evenings and weekends. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have a professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.
