Overview

Job Summary Responsible for the inbound logistics/transportation of goods from vendors to distribution centers and stores. Provides internal and/or external resources necessary to meet delivery needs of the Distribution Centers, reporting to the Senior Director of Transportation. Plans and directs the utilization of cost-effective means of transportation to optimize/maximize income opportunities, cost control opportunities and generate revenue. Coordinates transportation activities with Outbound Transportation to ensure cost-effective and efficient of movement of product and equipment within the transportation network. All activities are designed to support the Company Mission of improving the lives of our customers and employee owners by offering the lowest possible priced groceries to our communities. Typical Duties and Responsibilities

* Interact, coordinate, and plan with internal corporate, regional, and distribution center resources in Purchasing, Logistics, Distribution, Accounting and Operations Staff, as well as significant interaction and coordination with a variety of external resources - carriers, product manufacturers, and vendor distribution resources. * Responsibility for the analysis and identification of new business opportunities as well as providing ongoing analysis of existing business to determine whether or not to participate in a vendor's backhaul/CPU program. * Identify ways to optimize Inbound Logistics through managing, implementing, or recommending advanced planning and scheduling with TMS or ERP systems/tools. * Develop solid relationships with internal customers, external customers and suppliers intended to improve reliability and timeliness of service to the distribution center facilities. * Achieve best in class business outcomes through collaboration, communication, mutual trust and clearly stated goals. * Effectively lead activities of the department to: reduce costs, improve efficiency, increase competitiveness, enhance supply chain visibility and ensure quality of service to our retail customers. * Effectively manage the flow of goods from suppliers to the company's facilities, to reduce costs, improve supply chain visibility, and increase competitiveness by enhancing WinCo Foods Low Price market position. * Provides both technical and management expertise necessary to facilitate growth of managed inbound volume to achieve company goals. * Negotiate competitive and cost-effective third-party carrier rates and service contracts. * Develop and maintain a freight rate comparison to ensure negotiated rates remain competitive and the most cost-effective carriers are utilized for inbound transportation services. * Monitor and address carrier performance and/or untimely delivery and pick up issues. * Work closely with buying department and other outside vendors ensuring vendor transportation allowances and backhaul agreements on all new product acquisitions meet traffic requirements, company standards and are cost effective. * Directly supervise logistics department staff. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in leading, coaching and developing of employees. Identifies and appropriately address employee performance issues. * Oversee the claims process of damaged goods, shortages and overages. Review and process payment of carrier invoices promptly and accurately. * Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

* Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience in procurement, logistics analysis, planning, and execution.

Experience:

* Minimum of 4 years in logistics and/or transportation. * Utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail in order to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments. * Establishing and maintaining good rapport with co-workers, vendors, corporate management and others. * Demonstrating excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. * Working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with a strong customer service orientation.

Ability to:

* Prioritize and perform a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking), effectively managing time to ensure deadlines are met. * Perform complex data analysis, through advance use of spreadsheets, databases and BI tools. * Identify areas of professional growth and develop a growth plan that supports the needs of the company and position. * Understand with mental alertness overall company transportation practices, in-depth understanding of policies/procedures and the ability to judge/react to department needs. * Exhibit an excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives. * Conduct visual inspections, read reports, computer printouts, screen etc. * Ability to deal with a widely varied customer base (vendor, corporate, regional, D.C., carriers) * Ability and willingness to be available after hours, weekends and holidays to manage Inbound freight exceptions as they occur. * Occasionally travel as required.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

* Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) Certificate * Certified Transportation Professional (CTP)
