Job Summary

Responsible for the leadership of multiple areas of the finance function to achieve the financial results and plan, including financial planning & analysis, driving the financial analysis of capital planning, customer profitability, and other initiatives, routine and accurate forecasting of key assumptions, assessing financial risks, driving opportunities and mitigating risks, supporting financial control and the close of the financial statements, and accounts payable/receivable, and credit & collections. Own the development, tracking and achievement of financial goals, objectives, and budgets. Leads analysis, planning, and control of the organization's financial transactions, systems, and procedures to comply with regulations, accounting principles, and other internal/external financial standards. Partner with the executive leadership team and other key functions and teams in achieving these goals, while hiring, developing and managing a diverse team of finance colleagues.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, this role reports directly to the CFO of US Food Service and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of SYGMA. This role often serves as a business advisor and therefore has a mandate to participate and contribute broadly across all businesses and functions. This role will also play a critical part in helping the team build and execute strategy to accelerate growth, drive profitability, and execute on key initiatives.

This is an executive finance position responsible for directing and coordinating activities of department, region, administrative division, or specific function of the financial institution by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Interaction with other departments within the organization and coordinating projects and action plans is paramount in performing the duties of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executive Leadership - Identify through consultation with the President and senior management team the key actions necessary to achieve the financial plan.

  • Financial Responsibility - Responsible for the entire P&L including the balance sheet and cash flows, as well as key financial metrics (e.g., ROCI, free cash flow, cash conversion, etc.).

  • Drive Results - Partner with the senior management team and other team members in all departments to drive execution of key action items to achieve plan results.

  • Business Review and Analysis - Analyze the results of operations and review and explain key drivers of significant variances to plan and forecasted results.

  • Planning - Develop the three year long-range plan and the annual profit plan in conjunction with the senior management team. Ensuring accuracy of key assumptions, capital planning, core business activities and initiatives.

  • Forecasting - Develop accurate 18-month financial forecasts and periodically update as forecasting cadence dictates. Ensure key assumptions are accurate. Assess actuals to forecast looking for future trends that can be actioned to accelerate opportunities or mitigate risks.

  • Capital Projects- Serve as the point person on capital projects. Analyze and validate costs, create IRR modeling, and present to Executive Leadership for spending approval.

  • Customer Profitability - Partner with the executive leadership team, specifically the sales team, to analyze and validate profitability models for customer agreements.

  • Operations - Partner with the executive leadership team, specifically the operations team, to identify opportunities for improvements in our operational performance.

  • Talent Development -Select, train, and coach a diverse team of Supervisors, Managers, and Directors to maximize their personal and the Company's growth. Provide professional development opportunities through training, projects, and coaching.

  • Cross Functional Partnership - Collaborate and partner with within other functions, other groups within finance, the Sysco Global Support Center and the Sysco Business Services teams to achieve financial goals.

  • Core Business Activities - Responsible for the close of the general ledgers according to policy, procedures, and timeliness. Lead and support the accounting processes for the business including AR, AP, Accounts Receivable, Credit, Fixed Assets, and Inventory Control. Adhere to GAAP standards and Sysco's accounting policy.

  • Approvals- Provide review and approvals, as required, for material, non-standard activity, including new material contracts (e.g., customer, supplier, and lease agreements). Ensuring the agreements are in line with our financial goals and Sysco's policies.

  • Problem Solve - Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues and communicate resolution.

  • SOX- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley controls, implementing changes to controls as required by our Policy and Controls team, and ensuring any findings of internal audit and external audit are remediated in accordance with the agreed upon timeline. Validate through self-assessments controls and risks are being mitigated.

  • Continuous Process Improvement & Alignment - Work collaboratively with others within and outside of the function to identify, develop and implement process improvement plans, simplify and improve processes, reduce costs, prevent loss, and to ensure that work is completed accurately and on time.

  • Other - Perform a variety of other duties across a wide spectrum to evaluate the financial impact of plans and processes to achieve goals, assist other departments in their goals and processes, measure customer profitability, perform numerous daily functions, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business, master's degree, or MBA.

  • 6 - 8 years of previous experience in a leadership role working within a finance/accounting environment that supports multiple sites is required.

  • 4-6 years of supervisory experience is required.

Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. Workday)

  • Proficient in building presentations in Powerpoint

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods

  • Ability to strategize and solve problems

  • Ability to translate and communicate complex financial or accounting problems to non-finance functions

  • Foodservice experience preferred

  • Large, public company experience preferred

  • Experience working and leading in a hybrid working environment

Additional Requirements

  • Travel: Up to 50% of the time.

  • Relocation: Candidates residing outside of Houston, TX, or Dublin, OH must be open to relocating to the Dublin, OH area.
