Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a Surveyor experienced in Civil 3D/MicroStation Open Roads Designer with the flexibility to work from one of our SE Michigan offices, including Ann Arbor, Macomb, or Novi. This individual will handle a variety of job responsibilities in the field and office including construction staking and layout, engineering design surveys, boundary surveys, data collection, GPS, GIS mapping, mobile or terrestrial LiDAR collection, field investigation, field review, and coordination of multiple projects and clients. Qualified candidates will have thorough knowledge of modern survey methods and equipment.
Primary Functions
  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments on a variety of private and public projects, including construction staking and boundary, topographic, right-of-way, and as-built surveys.
  • Compile information necessary collect data and stake projects for construction using engineering plans.
  • Operate computerized data collection.
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, and sketches.
  • Process survey data and create boundary, topographic, right-of-way, and as-built surveys with MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Employees will need to be able to walk, climb, and maneuver outdoors to conduct field surveys; lift and carry survey equipment; and operate company motor vehicle to travel to work sites. Outdoor work in inclement weather is necessary. Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in person, in writing, and over the phone. Indoor work involves using a computer and other standard office equipment, sitting, standing, and light lifting. Visual acuity is necessary to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education/Licensure
Bachelor's degree in Surveying or Engineering, or applicable experience. Valid driver's license required. Possess Professional Surveyor (PS) license or have the ability to obtain, highly desired.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 5+ years of related surveying experience.
  • Experience with MicroStation Select Series and Open Roads Designer.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Prior work on Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects preferred.
  • Ability to work on construction and project sites while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
  • Work effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Perform responsibilities with attention to detail and deadlines.
