Submarine Sonar Acoustic Technician

Solvere is seeking a Submarine Sonar Acoustic Technician in Norfolk, VA.

Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA): Onboard submarine technical effort for the evaluation and correction of fleet equipment/system casualties. Technical assistance repairing and replacing malfunctioning or failed components. Including, but not limited to, distance support, onboard/at-sea troubleshooting, corrective repair action, onboard maintenance training, and logistical support.

Systems and equipment include: AN/BQQ-10.

1) Onboard FTA to perform checkout, fault isolation, and repair of equipment/system deficiencies of submarine combat control systems.

a) Approximately (8) per month

2) Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to ship's force during maintenance efforts.

3) Provide direct FTA support by responding to fleet requests for trouble shooting guidance or assistance and part availability or identification. Requests typically are received via telephone and require research of technical documents, which are available at MARMC.

a) Approximately (10) per month

4) Provide, review, and create TAVR messages upon completion of FTA visits and ensure JCN information for entry into FTS database with status of problem, findings, and actions taken to the Waterfront Coordinator.

5) Weekly waterfront operation meeting inputs for MARMC Code 272 submarine action items.

6) Updates to FTS and TAR for all work accomplished by MARMC Code 272.

7) Provide for OEM support when required.

8) Coordinate FTA to support SWFTS suite when required.

9) Calibrate all government combat test equipment used for FTA/Modernization that is not able to be calibrated by Navy METCAL.

10) Onboard FTA during TYCOM scheduled Information Assurance (IA) posture transition events.

11) Review incoming CASREP and Tech Assist message traffic for applicable code 272 messages.

12) Provide updates for the FTS database with respect to CASREP and FTA status for code 272.

13) Support scheduled submarine NIWC/SIIMO Modernization AN/BQQ-10 Alteration Installation Team (AIT) efforts as directed by MARMC Code 272.

14) Technical/logistical support for legacy retained equipment to perform Acoustic System pre-testing, rip-out, post testing, and ECI installation on submarines.

15) Review and comment on documentation required for ECI installation to include SUBMEPP Test Procedures.

16) Support for the installation/logistics of the AN/BQQ-10 Acoustic System on submarines.

17) PEO-SUB/NAVSEA Acoustic Systems Support: Support level of effort as required by MARMC for PEO-SUB/NAVSEA assigned support, to include, but not limited to the following:

a) Integrated Logistics Support.

b) Attend acoustic systems ILSMT and ILS Working Group meetings to provide waterfront ILS/Supply

Support input and recommendations.

c) Provide ILS/Supply Support for the review and comment of engineering changes.

d) Prepare and present Waterfront ILS/Supply Support brief at the acoustic systems ILSMT.

e) Participate in weekly PMS4012 ILS teleconference call and bi-weekly vendor VTC.

f) Track and report status of NAVSEA owned parts used in support of overseas tech assists.

18) Maintenance Planning and Engineering Support: Investigate and perform maintenance and maintainability investigations/assessments. Generate reports, point papers, and briefs including recommendations for problem solutions and/or product improvements. Waterfront maintenance support for the review and comment of engineering changes. Maintenance engineering input and technical support to PMS4012, ISEA, TDA, and OEMs at engineering, test, maintainability/test demonstrations, ILS and other program planning and technical meetings.

B. Assessments-AN/BQQ-10 (SSN/SSGN/SSBN)

1) Submarine Total Ship Readiness Assessment (TSRA), Weapon System Readiness Assessment (WSRA)

a) Perform technical efforts and conduct technical tasks onboard SSN/SSGN submarines as scheduled. Maintain ongoing review of the configuration management for TSRA. Review and evaluate various technical reports and studies concerning failure analysis and system performance studies. Review, evaluate, validate, and make recommendations to equipment/systems ILS elements for AN/BQQ-10.

b) When assigned by TYCOM/MARMC, provide Assessment Coordinator Duties which includes coordinated assignment of system matter experts performing an approved test plan from TYCOM. This also includes performing inbrief/outbrief/daily status to ship/ISIC/TYCOM chain of commands.

2) Submarine Inspection and Survey (INSURV)

a) INSURV support monitoring ship's force procedures utilizing PMS documentation as outlined by the INSURV team. This support both assesses ship's force performance and testing. Requires in port and at-sea system testing for AN/BQQ-10.

3) Submarine Combat Systems Assessment Planning (CSAP), System of System Interoperability and Mission Area Assessment (SOSIMAA)

a) Utilize Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) and SUBMEPP Combat Systems Test Procedures, as outlined to support the CSAP and/or as directed by the test director after a shipyard availability. This support is to assist ship's force in performing assessment testing and troubleshooting prior to completion of shipyard availability and provide for at-sea systems requirement testing, if required. At-sea testing is required for AN/BQQ-10.
b) Maintain deficiency tracking files which list the deficiencies encountered during this test period. This database shall be in Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Microsoft Word format, which will be provided to the MARMC test director for support during the CSA period.

  • Must currently possess Secret Security clearance

EDUCATION:

  • No requirement specified.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) years of full-time engineering experience onboard submarines in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, or repair of SWFTS and/or weapons handling equipment. Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight (8) years of full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, or repair of electronics systems and equipment.
