Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Compliance Manager, the successful candidate for Compliance Technician will monitor the day-to-day Gaming operations and ensure all Casino activity is monitored and compliant with the Buena Vista Tribal Gaming Ordinance, Tribal-State Compact, the National Indian Gaming Commission's (NJGC) Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS), and Tribal Internal Control Standards (TICS).
Investigates and reports deficiencies and/or violations to the Compliance Manager and utilizes controlled software and ancillary hardware for gaming device programming, installation, testing, settings verification, and other various compliance purposes.
 
Duties & Functions:
 
•          Monitor and/or conduct testing of gaming device control programmed storage media for verification of validity and authorized programming; responsible for ensuring gaming machine standards compliance.

•          Respond to and assist the Gaming Operation with device deliveries, installations, conversions, and will verify device programming and settings.

•          Will be required to validate/verify the legitimacy of large jackpots and must investigate potential machine malfunctions or fraudulent jackpots.

•          Test and certify the Compact technical compliance of every gaming device before the device can be put in play, including the relocation of any device.

•          Learn and remain current with gaming equipment, ancillary hardware, and software.

•          Monitor and/or inspect all gaming equipment and supplies for integrity and compliance.

•          Ensure all technical standards are being adhered to.
•          Ensure compliance with NIGC's MICS, Buena Vista Rancheria TICS, and the Gaming SOPs.

•          Communicate with casino personnel, vendors, government agencies and other gaming commissions as needed.

•          Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of timelines and deadlines for the submittal, review and approval of Gaming SOPs and applicable policies and procedures by the BVGC.

•          Conducts and assists in investigations and follow-up investigations to ensure implementation of corrective action.

•          Independently identify problems and take action to successfully resolve issues, willingly seeks out new or additional responsibilities, acts on opportunities to improve overall operations, and generates new ideas.

•          Performs other duties and projects as directed by the Compliance Manager and develops a cooperative working relationship with the Gaming Operation.

•          Knowledgeable of Buena Vista TICS, SOPs for the Gaming Operation, and NIGCMICS.

•          Remains current on all local, state, and federal gaming rule and regulations.
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
 
•          Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, and experience using databases.

•          Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
•          Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate fairness in all decisions.

•          Computer testing in the applicable skills may be a requirement during the interview process.

•          Must be dependable and prompt and willing to work a flexible schedule.
•          Must have strong multitasking skills and be able to effectively deal with frequent interruptions.

•          Be able to develop a working knowledge Tribal, Federal, State and Local rules and regulations applicable to Class III gaming in California.
•          Maintain absolute and strict confidentiality of all information regarding the BVGC and Casino Operation, and its personnel.
•          Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free Workplace as a condition of employment with the Commission.

•          Must be able to travel for periods of time for external training.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
 
•          Requires a High School diploma or equivalent, plus at least five (5) years regulatory, auditing, investigative related experience.

•          An Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.
•          POST Certification, or similar regulatory certification is preferred.
 
Physical Requirement:
 
•          Must be able to sit or stand for at least eight (8) hours; speak and listen; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

•          Must successfully complete a drug screening test prior to appointment.

•          Physically able to perform duties assigned.

•          Occasionally work extended shifts as assigned, some weekends and holiday.
 
Tribal and Indian Preference: Preference in filing vacancies may be given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC and Section 472). Verification Form BIA - 4432 or Verification of Tribal Membership from a federally recognized Tribe must be submitted to be considered for Indian Preference.
