Job Summary
Merchandise managers are responsible for overseeing the merchandise mix for assigned
departments, or product lines, or brand-specific items in our retail hardware stores. In
conjunction with regional distribution centers merchandise managers work directly with
vendors placing orders as they continuously review product lines looking for unique, innovative
items that fit well in the markets we serve. They should positively represent the Gerken
companies and company values. Their job will include, but is not limited to, the following
responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Select and purchase merchandise for the departments, and product lines assigned.
Maintain correct inventory levels by working with the stores management team.
Schedule store visits so you can see first-hand what is working and not working and
address concerns both you and the store have regarding merchandise.
Analyze product line inventory and profitability and routinely phase out slow-moving or
dead inventory.
Work with other merchandise managers and the advertising manager to develop
promotional campaigns that will sell our brand.
Qualifications
A passion for consumer marketing and retail.
Outstanding conceptual, analytical, and strategic skills.
A team player with the ability to communicate with cross-functional team members.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Valid Drivers License and clean driving record.
Motivated, organized, and self-starter who can think independently and solve problems.
Strong math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
Knowledge of effective sales methods and techniques.
Understand how to efficiently operate the stores point-of-sale system and rental
system. Other computer skills include knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
Some Pricing Analyst duties
Be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as
needed. The salaried position should be a minimum of 45 hours per week.
Schedule will be Monday- Friday. The office will be out of one of our Kansas City locations or in Paola, KS.
