For over 30 years, VQ OrthoCare has been a manufacturer/retailer of non-evasive Durable Medical Equipment products; primarily knee braces, arm braces, and bone stimulating devices. We have a network of Sales Reps across the country providing our products to physicians who prescribe them for their patients. Our mission is to help our customers live an active more pain free life.

Providing support as an Independent Contractor, The Orthopedic DME Technician is responsible for educating and fitting patients with VQ OrthoCare equipment in a professional and ethical manner. The essential responsibilities are typically a variety of projects of significant scope and complexity. Work is subject to periodic review upon completion and is performed under general direction.

*Compensation for this role is calculated using a Fee Schedule for each services performed and outlined on invoices you submit each week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Objective: To educate & fit patients and complete administrative tasks in a manner consistent that appropriately and effectively supports the function and activities of the Patient Technical Services Department.

Expectations:

  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Responsible for obtaining and submitting, in a timely fashion, all paperwork including: mileage overview logs, patient contracts, Patient Orientation Checklists, and other paperwork the Company may request and/or require in order to properly bill for and obtain payment from insurance companies and other payers.
  • Responsible for sending in timely and detailed updates in regards to patient fittings, actions, requirements, and the like that may be necessary to keep an accurate account of the technician/patient interaction.
  • Orderly movement and reporting of inventory by completing all necessary paperwork related to the movement of said inventory.
  • Maintaining personal stock, obtaining all necessary signatures on delivery tickets and additional documents when requested. Forwarding original signed documents to the billing department in a timely manner.
  • Assists with other assignments or special projects, as required.
  • Customer Care
  • Provide the delivery, proper set-up, instruction, and education to client base on the safe and appropriate use of VQ OrthoCare products as requested by the ordering physician both within and outside the assigned region to medical facilities or private residences.
  • Provide patients with appropriate information on the care and maintenance of the prescribed equipment in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures, including cleaning techniques.
  • Verify the patient's understanding and appropriate use of the equipment prior to obtaining the appropriate signatures.

Expectations:

  • Review existing solutions to determine best methods for solving problems.
  • Assist with development of proactive problem solving methods as they relate to Patient Technical Services operations &/or Company processes
  • Make routine decisions requiring moderate use of independent judgment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems through all departmental processes.
  • Assists with training/guidance of other non-exempt staff and team members
  • Identify concerns &/or recommendations for process improvement.
  • Ability to ask probing questions to analyze and address problems or concerns

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Expectations:

  • Return all voice mail messages, electronic pages and telephone calls in a timely manner as necessary specific to the level of responsibility of the job and needs of the organization and the patient.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before patients, clinicians and/or coworkers, one-on-one and in group situations for the purpose of product/service instruction.

Education/Experience:

  • 1+ years related experience or equivalent of education plus directly related education, training and experience
  • Preferred experience includes customer service and/or medical services experience in medical or home healthcare workplace environments.
  • Medical terminology or training is preferred.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Typically interacts with staff, peers, senior management and external customers
  • Ability to handle moderate to high stress
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, move about, stoop, bend, reach, finger and grasp and to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must regularly type and or enter data using hand-held electronic devices.
  • Regularly must drive and navigate safely around the assigned area.
  • Occasionally required to stand and climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception.
  • Be able to speak and hear clearly.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid Driver's license issued in state where job will be performed maintaining a good driving record with no more than 3 infractions on DMV report
  • Must maintain appropriate level of automobile insurance necessary to insure and protect the Company from liability arising out of the misuse of their personal vehicle while performing the essential duties of the position.
  • Negative Tuberculosis skin test is required and administered yearly.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment varies between that of a typical office setting with controlled temperature and humidity and a typical automobile interior, traffic and noise associated with commuting, along with typical patient home environments for short durations. Ambient noise levels are consistent and generally low to moderate.
