Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) Bridge Unit is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal (10-month) Forest Officer position, at their Bridge (Myrtle Point) office. There is a strong possibility cooperative work will be available for this position, which would result in year-round employment. Preference may be given to individuals that are capable of responding to their duty station within 30 minutes.

COMPENSATION: Forest Officer beginning rate of pay is $20.80 to $38.19 per hour and is based on experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for overtime compensation.

This position qualifies to take advantage of our benefits package which includes health, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as vacation, sick and personal leave. Association retirement is also provided once minimum qualifications are met. Sick leave and length of service may transfer from Douglas Forest Protective Assn., Walker Range Forest Protective Assn., and the Oregon Department of Forestry.

DUTIES: Forest Officer duties include, but are not limited to:

Enforcement of Oregon Forest Laws and administering local fire prevention programs by utilizing strong communication and administrative skills in order to maintain contact with forest operators, landowners and the public involving education and interpretation of forest laws and fire programs. Maintaining positive working relationships with local fire departments and cooperators, as well as having the ability to effectively work as a member of or leader in a team environment is vital. Training and leading crews in wildland fire suppression, pre-suppression, fire prevention and safety activities will be required. Assignment to oversee and contribute to the performance of unit maintenance, repair and minor construction projects of fire equipment, buildings, grounds, and landscaping through the unit may be required. This position also requires the completion of various reports and documents including, but not limited to fire reports, preliminary fire investigations, and the participation in Industrial Fire Inspection and Smoke Management Programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires long hours of arduous physical activity in all types of terrain and weather conditions with exposure to various hazards including, but not limited to poison oak, bees, smoke, snakes, steep terrain, noise, heat, dust, burning and/or falling materials and other hazards. Successfully passing and maintaining the physical fitness level necessary (Arduous) is required and will be tested on a yearly basis. Various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours with short notice is required. Assignments to emergency incidents may require being away from the assigned duty station for extended periods of time with occasional travel throughout the state of Oregon and other states.

A current/valid Oregon Driver’s License with a Class “C” or higher, and the ability to obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements is preferred, as the operation of 4-wheel drive pickups and larger vehicles in various road conditions and during fire situations is required. Successful candidates will be subject to a driving background check with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
