Title:             Pattern Maker, Private Label RTW (Part Time)

Location:      Washington, D.C.
Reports to:   Abraham Cruz, Designer 


Position Overview 

Tuckernuck is looking for a Pattern Maker to interpret our designs into patterns that ensure high quality fit and consistency in our Private Label line.  The Pattern Maker will work closely with our Founders, designers, merchants, and vendors to develop patterns that help to delight our customers and drive profitability. 


Core Responsibilities 

  • Create patterns that are accurate and well-fitting to design intention and clearly executable for respective cutters, sample makers,  and offshore factories
  • Maintain accurate yield and measurement specifications for manufacturing and costing
  • Participate in all development meetings and fittings to test and adjust patterns
  • Consistent communication with the production team to ensure high-quality fit and standard and review of pre-production samples 
  • Create a prototype of patterns and make any necessary adjustments before the final design is made
  • Collaborate with designers and development team to sure the functionality and fit of the garment
  • Grade patterns while maintaining styling details and proportions 
  • Develop size charts for all styles and grading, accommodating basic sizes
  • Prepare patterns for manufacturing processes, including seam allowances, notches, grain lines, labels and variants 
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to establish productionable and cost-effective methods, supporting fit sessions, sampling approval, and seasonal demands
  • Examine the factory patterns to ensure accuracy, fit, balance, and construction details as well as  making sure the factory pattern maker understands the specialized design and construction details 


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in womenswear clothing pattern making 
  • Understanding of technical textiles, garment construction and fit, along with an eye for detail and commitment to quality  


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 

  • Expertise in cut, silhouette, and production 
  • Ability to interpret the designer’s intention
  • Understanding of the Tuckernuck brand with a strong attention to detail and high quality execution 
  • Knowledge of complex garment construction and high-end garment finishes 
  • Ability to collaborate well with others coupled with specific experience in design.
  • Strong knowledge of quality, make, and production integrity appropriate for Tuckernuck merchandise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate effectively with internal colleagues, management and vendors.
  • Sound thinking necessary to accomplish detailed, complex tasks, as well as the ability to anticipate potential problems and provide effective solutions
