Salary:

Overview

Special Education Teacher wanted for grades 9 through 12. Candidates must be eager to work with students of all abilities in a public school and adapt instruction to students’ interests and needs. Candidates must also be willing to be involved in the life of the school.


Status of Position

This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette.  This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.


Reporting

The Special Education Teacher reports to their campus/building principal.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing and implementing the Missouri Learning standards for IDEA students in the classroom
  • Following the goals and objectives in the IEP for each student by maintaining communication with parents and teachers on the educational progress of students.
  • Work with building process coordinator in delivery of services to IDEA students.
  • Work with general education teachers in screening, evaluating, and providing inclusion under parameters of IEP.
  • Develop accommodations/modifications to meet the unique needs of students in classroom, CWC, or inclusive setting.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Director of Special Education.
  • Develop annual IEP’s and three reevaluation reports for special education students.
  • Knowledge of Transition Process/Student Goals
  • Classroom management
  • Communicate with peers and parents
  • Maintain accurate grades, documentation of report cards, and attendance records
  • Participate in all mandatory training and professional development, as required
  • Engage in school-wide activities


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Degree in Special Education
  • Hold or be eligible for Missouri Teaching Certificate in Special Education or in an individual area
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines for IDEA and 504 partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and procedures
  • Proven experience as a teacher
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills necessary for working in a multicultural environment
  • The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to integrate technology into the classroom
