Southern Illinois Crankshaft, Inc. was established in 1985 by Michael Schaefer in a small building located in southern Illinois. In his shop, Michael started by regrinding crankshafts and with his proven dedication and customer service, his company soon grew. After eight years, the company built a new 7600 square foot building in Red Bud, Illinois.


With an extremely dedicated and talented staff, the company bolstered their operations by expanding their capabilities to manufacture crankshafts in house.


In the last four years, the company has expanded their facilities by almost 23,000 square feet. Investments in modern technology along with a long-time staff of excellent and well-seasoned machinists, Southern Illinois Crankshaft has continued to flourish.

Requirements:

Job Summary:

We are looking for a proficient and detail-oriented CNC Machinist to operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines and produce high-precision parts according to engineering specifications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in CNC programming, setup, and operation, as well as a strong understanding of machining processes and materials. CNC Machine Setup and Programming:

  • Prepare and set up CNC machines, including loading raw materials and loading required tools and fixtures.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to meet product specifications.
  • Adjust machine settings and tool offsets as necessary to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

CNC Machining Operations:

  • Operate CNC machines to manufacture components in compliance with engineering drawings and quality standards.
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments as needed to maintain product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Quality Control:

  • Perform regular inspections of machined parts using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Identify and address deviations from specifications, making adjustments or notifying the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Participate in quality control initiatives to continuously improve production processes and reduce defects.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and regulations related to machining operations and equipment usage.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve machining challenges.
  • Provide timely feedback and reports on production status, issues, and recommendations.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a CNC Machinist or similar role.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and operation.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, and materials.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality output.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machine-related issues.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to work with heavy machinery and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong adherence to safety regulations and protocols.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or relevant education is a plus.
