POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a skilled Director of Facilities to oversee our portfolio of full-service and lifestyle hotels. This person is responsible for managing all aspects of facility maintenance as well as supervising construction projects and should have experience planning and budgeting in the Hospitality Industry. To be successful in this role, this person is expected to plan, communicate, facilitate, oversee and coordinate any: preventive maintenance, repairs, improvements, renovations, new construction and overall presentation of all buildings and grounds. The ideal candidate will have a passion for inspiring goals and uncovering insights that lead to bigger, better, and bolder earned-centric ideas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be flexible with work schedule. Work holidays, weekends or longer than 8-hour days as needed, as well as be on-call via phone 24/7 to tend to hotel emergencies – some emergencies may require you to be onsite
  • Establish relationships with our teams at the properties, the corporate office, and vendor / suppliers
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with all levels of our organization
  • Work to develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) and policies
  • Conduct or arrange training of co-workers and subordinates regarding safety, security, department procedures, repairs, maintenance techniques, operational procedures and service guidelines
  • Supervise and assist engineering staff in maintaining and repairing fire and life safety systems, room equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems – especially for kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, pool equipment, lighting, laundry equipment and other systems/equipment as directed
  • Develop energy conservation initiatives and promote their use
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate and teach engineering best practices to management and property operations staff
  • General knowledge of procedures for repairing and/or replacing all types of plumbing, electrical and HVAC equipment
  • Prepare requisitions for replacement of bench stock items, locate and purchase materials needed for emergency repairs, provide administration of outside maintenance, contract activity of major systems (i.e., elevators, fire alarm, trash)
  • Assist General Manager in determining capital requests and managing contracts for capital projects
  • Promote preventative maintenance activities throughout the organization
  • Promote operational safety throughout the organization
  • Participate in conference calls and meetings on a regular basis
  • Conduct property audits utilizing the standardized Engineering Audit Reports
  • Conduct engineering analysis of products and processes (i.e., capital equipment, new technology) and make recommendations for the area and the corporation
  • Assist in the budgeting and planning process at all hotels in the assigned area as needed
  • Comply with Brand standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Follow company policies and procedures and ensure adherence is achieved by field engineering staff members
  • Always provide a professional image and ensure all onsite engineers adhere to the same through appearance and dress
  • Meet with vendors and suppliers to discuss scope of work and products / materials to use in repair activities
  • Support the capital purchasing program in accordance with guidelines
  • Possess the ability to read and use design drawings, diagrams, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications
  • Interprets specifications of blueprints, plans and manuals for successful supervision of activities
  • Ensure hotels operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory agencies
  • Conduct peer review or other site visits at hotels
  • Generate written reports and recommendations
  • Travel is required approximately 75% of the time
  • Must have the ability to lead/supervise a minimum staff of 30


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two years of college or vocational training in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or plumbing; plus six years work experience in facilities, maintenance plant operations or engineering services for hotels
  • One or more certifications in plumbing, HVAC or electrical. Minimum Type III EPA Certification for refrigerant reclamation and charging required. Other licensure as required by law is desired.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to help manage a team of maintenance technicians in multiple hotels
  • Solicit, review and make recommendations for third-party subcontractor / vendor work, then monitor execution and closeout of work
  • Customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Goal oriented, strives for excellence and is self-motivated
  • Possess initiative and willing to take on extra responsibilities when required
