Position Health Officer                                                          

Classification      C.U. 01-03 ($17.04 - $18.17 - $19.23)                                   

Hours   Approx. 40 hours/week during summer camp season (approx. 4-5 weeks)                                                            

Supervisor   Camp Director                                                      

 

Essential Function of the Job

Under the direction of the Camp Director, the health officer is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff.  The health officer will log medical records and treatment provided for campers and staff.  The health officer will pass medication to campers and staff.    

 

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in the position of this class.)

  1. Be responsible for the health and safety of campers and staff.
  2. Maintain camp facilities (i.e. the health office) while camp is in session.
  3. Assist in pre camp training for staff.
  4. Log medical records and treatment provided for campers and staff.
  5. Attend In-Service Training and staff meetings.
  6. Pass medication to campers and staff.
  7. Effectively communicate and keep director informed of medical issues and problems as they occur.
  8. Ensure that the health office is adequately stocked at all times per camp regulations.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements of Work

  1. Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
  2. Ability to relate in a positive manner with special needs children and adults.
  3. A satisfactory review of Criminal History Check and Central Registry Clearance
  4. Health officer training or other training/certification that meets the Michigan Department of Human Services, Division Of Child Welfare Licensing rules for Children's And Adult Foster Care Camps (may be provided).

 

Desirable Minimum Training and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s in nursing or experience in the medical field.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  4. Some knowledge of the developmentally disabled population.
