REQUIREMENTS Associate Degree in Medical Technology ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification required within one year of hire Mathematical skills Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire Reasoning and language skills at the college level Ability to read, write, speak and understand English well. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. Maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel. Performs variety of general laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs routine and special laboratory tests in accordance with requisition of physician, may perform clinical tests in any one or combination of areas of specialization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment. Incorporates Mission, Vision and Core Values of LCHC into department, and ensures departmental employees and self adhere to these. Wears appropriate apparel for the position and displays nametag upon such apparel. Regular and predictable work attendance. Performs routine and special laboratory tests within. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action. Provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager. Calls critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria. Prepares test reports legibly. Initials and dates own work performed. Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. Performs quality-control tests. Runs quality-control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording. Analyzes quality-control data and takes appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager as required. Documents actions taken. Holds patient results until out-of-control situations are resolved. Reports unresolved situations to the Laboratory Manager. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. Observes and follows department preventive maintenance schedules. Documents all instrument checks, preventive maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective actions taken. Recognizes, analyzes, and takes corrective action to resolve instrument/clinical problems. Provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in the resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager as required. Reports unresolved instrument/clinical problems to the Laboratory Manager. Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory area. Helps maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area. Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Performs specimen collection and processing duties as needed or assigned and according to policies established in the Phlebotomy area. Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training. Observes laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and safety practices. Keeps work area neat and clean, and restocks daily supplies. Assumes the role of leadership in the routine daily activities of the section as assigned. Maintains equilibrium in stressful situations. Participates in departmental "on-call" schedule which requires a 30 minute response time Performs other related duties as assigned. May be assigned responsibilities for coordinating education activities. Assists the Laboratory Manager in inventory control and requisition of supplies. Assists the Laboratory Manager in quality-assurance activities. Ability to understand and follow directions Ability to work with minimal supervision Dependable and responsible Other duties as assigned.

Shift: Monday-Thursday 6:30pm-5:00am
