E4H is seeking a Senior Lab Planner for a position of Associate Principal with experience in pre-design, programming & laboratory planning and specialty laboratory and health science environments. As an expert in the design and documentation of a wide range of lab projects including research and clinical labs and vivaria, you would lead design teams in our Health Sciences and Technology practice. Responsibilities

  • Work directly with clients, scientists, researchers and stakeholders to develop biocontainment and biosafety programming and planning from concept through construction for small renovations to new construction and large projects.
  • Offer and support creative biocontainment focused laboratory planning, technical design scalable to client’s needs.
  • Serve as collaborator and technical advisor to our healthcare practice for academic, clinical, forensic, government, public health and R&D.
  • Oversee document production for schematic design, design development and construction documents phases. Supervise QA/QC activity at all stages of production.
  • Assist in the development of standard materials unique to E4H’s Health Sciences and Technology Practice.
  • Work closely with partners and staff to identify and recruit best-in-class talent.
  • Lead the relationships with the client, contractor, agencies, engineering and specialty consultants, and key vendor relationships.
  • Prepare and review proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements.
  • Manage project teams, mentor junior staff.
  • Speak or participate in professional conferences or other events related to area of biocontainment.
  • Author articles to be published in professional journals or major trade publications.

Qualifications

  • Licensed architect with Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture with at least 10+ years of architectural or related experience, inclusive of 5+ years’ experience leading the design of lab and life sciences facilities.
  • Direct experience with USDA, NIH, CDC, and other relevant regulations and guidelines including BSL 1-3+, CL-1-3 is required, BSL -3Ag/4, CL-4 experience optional.
  • Working knowledge of relevant biosafety systems, equipment, procedures, and protocols
  • Knowledge of laboratory programming and planning with keen understanding of biocontainment space requirements, operations, equipment, MEP systems and scientific casework.
  • Commitment to the principles of sustainable design and resiliency.
  • Ability to work with end users to develop process flows, planning processes and adjacencies optimum lab operations and flexibility.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate ideas in interviews and other presentations.
