A bioscience and information technology company is seeking an ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Biologist join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Vaccine Production Program (VPP).

Responsibilities
  • Execute formulation and stability studies within a project development team under guidance of the team leader, including:
    • Coordination of study tasks among various personal internal and external to formulation project team.
    • Interpretation of analytical data with an understanding of protein/vaccine structure and stability concepts, and elements of the effects of solution components on stability.
    • Collation and trending of overall study data and interpretation of study data in consultation with project team lead.
    • Independent generation of samples using both standard and advanced study specific analytical methods.
    • Independent analysis of analytical sample data.
    • Submission for external analytical testing.
    • Presentation of study data to internal project teams and interdepartmental meetings as needed.
  • Execute assay development studies for vaccine and biotherapeutic characterization under the guidance of senior personnel, including:
    • Coordination of study tasks among various personal internal and external to formulation project team.
    • Independent generation and analysis of samples using both standard and advanced study specific analytical methods.
    • Independent analysis of analytical sample data.
    • Interpretation of analytical data with an understanding of protein/vaccine structure and stability concepts, and elements of the effects of solution components on stability.
    • Collation and trending of overall study data and interpretation of study data in consultation with project team lead and scientific SMEs.
    • Presentation of study data to internal project teams and interdepartmental meetings as needed.
  • Prepare technical protocols documenting formulation, stability, and method development studies in collaboration with senior personnel, including design based technical analytical experience and theoretical understanding of protein/vaccine structure and stability concepts.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting formulation, stability, and method development studies, which may include including drafting, editing, and verification of data.
  • Contribute to professional manuscripts based on results of formulation, stability, and method development studies, as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to formulation team members.
  • Provide external service and execute routine maintenance and troubleshooting for one or more pieces of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Comply with all NIH and VPP policies.
     
Experience Required / Requirements
  • B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline wiht minimum 4 years of industry, government or equivalent experience in protein formulation or a related field or M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum 2 years of academic, industry, government or equivalent experience in protein formulation or a related field (Master’s degree experimental thesis may waive this requirement).
  • Experience with study coordination and execution in one or more of the following areas: protein/vaccine formulation, protein/vaccine stability, protein/vaccine pre-formulation or related biophysical characterization/development.
  • Hands-on experience, including data analysis and basic theoretical knowledge, with three or more of the following techniques: UV-visible, fluorescence, Circular Dichroism and/or IR spectroscopy; Differential Scanning Calorimetry; Particle characterization (light scattering,HIAC and/or MFI).
  • Strong knowledge of protein chemistry and biophysical properties of proteins. Knowledge of standard biophysical and bioanalytical methods and underlying theory.
  • Experience with data analysis using standard and specialized software platforms (JMP, Origin, GRAMS, Prism, SigmaPlot, etc.).
