JOB DESCRIPTION: Certified Medication Aide (CMA) 7p to 7a Full time
The Landing of Winder Assisted Living and Memory Care
Salary: $13.00 to $16.00
SIGN ON BONUS AFTER 90 DAYS . One chef-prepared meal provided per shift! SMALL RESIDENT TO STAFF RATIOS! $13.00-$16.00 based on CMA experience.
The Landing of Winder Assisted Living and Memory Care :CMA (Certified Medication Aide) will perform a variety of patient care duties to residents in an assisted living/memory care community under the direction and supervision of nurse. This detail-oriented candidate will be responsible for administering medications, recording/reporting within the eMAR, collecting samples, performing minor physician directed treatments and performing other tasks related to patient care.
JOB DUTIES:
- Administer oral and external medications to residents at a specifically schedule time within your shift (within a 60 minute window).
- Utilized eMAR system to review, verify, and document all medications administered to each resident.
- Obtain and record resident vital signs for general health screening purposes or when required in conjunction with medication administration.
- Follows standards of safety and hygiene when handling storing and disposing of medications. Follow infection control policies at all times.
- Observe residents, document, and communicate changes in their condition.
- Coordinate with physician offices, residents, family members, and pharmacy partners on any/all changes to medication treatment.
- Confirm/clarify any order or treatment plan that is questionable with the appropriate nurse supervisor. This entails any unclear order, contraindicated order, medication pass with a software interaction alert, or other scenario that questions any confidence in medication administration.
- Organize and secure the medication cart.
- Ensure all medical equipment is routinely inspected and thoroughly cleaned.
- At the start of each medication pass, record the temperature on the med cart temp log to ensure medications have been stored properly.
- Check expiration dates for any/all OTC medications or DME supplies that are being used. Organize storage locations as needed. FIFO
- Remove any discontinued or expired drugs from the inventory and coordinate/document proper drug destruction per policy.
- Recognize the resident’s right to refuse medication and document and report to director of healthcare.
- Document and notify the appropriate supervising nurse when the decision is made to not administer required medications.
- Recognize and report any questionable or unsafe condition for medication provision.
- Responds promptly to resident requests and engages appropriate staff person if unable to fulfill resident needs/requests.
- Adheres to The Landing Senior Living Employee Handbook, the Employee Code of Conduct & all policy and procedures set forth by the company.
- Promote resident independence while maintaining dignity.
ADDITIONAL SHIFT DUTIES FOR ALL CARE STAFF:
- Respond to patient emergency calls, signals to identify patient needs.
- Provide assistance with housekeeping and laundry upon request and per the laundry schedule.
- Encourage resident participation in community activities through encouragement positive reinforcement.
- Keep nursing desk station and medication cart clean and organized.
- Participate in the common area cleaning schedule.
- Assist residents with transfers as needed.
- Participate in activities and events with the residents after medication responsibilities are completed.
- Perform other projects or duties requested by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- CMA certified in the State of Georgia
- Must pass skills check competency assessment upon hire and continually throughout employment.
- Completion of continuing education requirements and renewal of CMA certification required every two years (employer assistance provided).
- Ability to utilize glucose monitors, blood pressure/vitals equipment, and other medical equipment.
- Computer skills to work within the electronic medical record (eMAR). Software specific training provided.
- Basic knowledge of and the ability to apply Geriatric Nursing principles.
- Ability to relate and work well with various individuals/personalities.
- Positive attitude and energy to coach and encourage resident participation.
- Ability to use good judgement and make decisions in the best interest of resident safety and well-being of the resident and the company.
- Ability to multitask and properly document all aspects of resident care delivery.
- Physical abilities demanded by the nursing profession to include aiding with patient transfers, administering treatments or medications, lifting/moving medical supplies, walking, standing, sitting for long periods of time and some car travel between locations.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- TB Skin Test, criminal background check and drug screen required.
