Summary

The Dublin VA, Diagnostic Imaging Service is seeking a full-time Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (G) for the VA Medical Center in Dublin Georgia.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Certification
• All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R)
• Education: Completed a a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology
• English Language Proficiency
• DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C
• 7402(d), and 7407(d)
• May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)
• Grade Determinations: GS-8 Experience
• At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level
• Assignments
• Employees at this grade level serve as staff DRTs at the full performance level
• Candidates at this grade level must be qualified to independently provide services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services with only occasional oversight or direction for highly complex issues
• Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines
• Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed
• Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results
• Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed
• Skill in using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest

• Physical Requirements: ???????The incumbent usually works standing and has patient contact involving occasional heavy lifting, and/or assisting patients
• The computer area of the in vivo section calls for long periods of working around loud noise, prolonged concentration and long periods of sitting, while working under pressure as a deadline to produce accurate patient test results.

Duties

"The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (G) performs technical work in support of diagnostic radiology under the direction of a physician.
Operates radiology equipment, both mobile and fixed, and assists the radiologist in fluoroscopic procedures as part of the diagnostic plan for patients.
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Independently interprets and carries out the requests made by physicians.
Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shields patients as appropriate.
Determines technical factors, sets controls, and operates equipment.
Independently makes routine radiographic examinations of the head, trunk, and extremities of patients for diagnosis of illness or injuries.
Operates computerized and conventional radiography equipment.
Performs procedures such as UGI series', Barium Swallows, Modified Barium Swallows, and barium and air-contrast Barium Enemas.
Assures that sterile supplies, local anesthetics, contrast materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and laid out for use by the radiologist or other medical officers.
Schedules patients for examinations.
Reviews new developments in the field of Radiography and recommends to the head of the unit adoption of those which would improve the operations of the Radiology section.
Cleans equipment and area after use.
Performs routine maintenance and recognizes and reports malfunctioning equipment to ensure repair.
Performs picture archival duties.
