Position Summary

The Principal Operational Technology (OT) Architect will be responsible for leading a virtual group of multi-disciplined technical professionals to create high-quality operational technology architecture and solutions that meet PG&E’s goals and strategic direction. The Principal OT Architect will set the direction for the OT services and standards and work very closely with stakeholders in order to gather requirements, propose OT architectural solutions and provide economic and business justification for such plans. The Principal OT Architect would be an outstanding communicator and would represent the ICS organization in the Operations Technology space and its services.  The Principal OT Architect will be authoring and proposing initiatives and system projects to IT Value Stream Owners for the implementation considerations and budget allocation.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Bay Area Minimum: $140,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $238,000.00

 

OR

 

California Minimum: $133,000.00
California Maximum: $226,000.00

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Provide leadership in the Operations Technology domain for the development of high quality, tightly integrated, consistently available, secure, flexible, and fault-tolerant SCADA and Teleprotection network architecture.
  •  Oversee standards development and project solution blueprints.
  • Create, architect, develop, and propose solutions to complex technical, procedural, and compliance type problems.
  • Identify new technologies and work with vendors to develop technology roadmaps for internal implementation.
  • Work with IT staff, peer domain architects and appropriate members of the internal Client community to provide responsive solutions and options for problems and opportunities.
  • Provide yearly budget management oversight and report on asset health for the OT Devices and their services.
  • Author OT architecture presentations and concepts for management and executive-level audiences.
  • Propose budgetary estimates and work with Management for justification and prioritization of OT implementation plans.
  • Conduct yearly review and benchmarking of overall OT network architecture.
  • Represent ICS organization on company direction related to the OT services and benchmarks. Collaborate very strongly with all internal clients to achieve high degree of confidence in the OT strategies and their implementation.
  • Lead architecture discipline on large initiatives, provide oversight of solution architecture and engineering on projects, engage the Lines of Business experts and collaborate on designs, solution and expected performance requirements.
  • Support the General Rate Case (GRC) Chapters as needed to justify the OT technology investments and proposal for advancing the Grid and Gas system reliability.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in enterprise architecture
  • Experience in IT-Information Technology architecture, 10 years

 

Desired:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, networking, or a related field, or 12 years equivalent work experience

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.

  • 12 years of experience working with individuals and teams involved in SCADA, Teleprotection and/or Power Control Systems.

  • 12 years of experience with private communications networks including microwave, fiber optic multiplexing and satellite communications.
  • 12 years of technical experience with designing and implementing large scale OT networks – Energy Management Systems, SCADA (OSI Monarch, RT SCADA, Citect), SCADA Protocols (DNP3, Modbus, PG&E Protocol, IEC-61850),
  • 12 years of technical experience with designing and implementing large scale Electric Protection Schemes - Direct Transfer Trip, Permissive Overreaching Transfer Trip, Differential Comparison, Remedial Action Schemes, Special Protection Schemes. 
  • Thorough understanding of NERC Critical Information Protection Standards. 
  • Knowledge of network security concepts and technologies, including but not limited to: firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, proxy servers, Citrix servers, access control systems, Cisco FWSM, and Cisco ASA.
  • 7 years of experience in Radio SCADA coverage planning and implementation.
  • 7 years of experience in SCADA Integration into IP Networks. Highly desirable to have knowledge of Wireless SCADA devices and their configuration.
  • 5 years of experience in multiple vendor SCADA and Teleprotection systems.
  • Strong communications skills, including excellent spoken and written English are required. Must be able to explain difficult and abstract concepts verbally, in writing and through diagrams and impactful illustrations. This includes the expert use of MS Office suite, including Powerpoint and Visio. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively, cooperatively, and closely with all levels of IT staff and management. Should be comfortable with large audience presentations as well as representing the company at conferences and peer workshops.
