Community Association Attorney (2-5 years of experience)

Overview:

A boutique law firm in Alexandria is seeking a motivated and skilled attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join our team as a Community Association Attorney. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in real estate law, excellent communication skills, and a passion for serving community associations and their members.

Responsibilities:


  • Legal Advising: Provide legal advice and guidance to community association clients on a wide range of issues including governance, compliance, contracts, disputes, and collections.
  • Document Review and Drafting: Review and interpret governing documents such as bylaws, CC&R, and rules and regulations. Draft amendments and other legal documents as needed.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes between associations and their members, including mediation, negotiation, and, if necessary, litigation.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate and draft contracts with vendors, service providers, and contractors on behalf of community associations for various services and projects.
  • Compliance: Ensure that community associations are in compliance with state and local laws, as well as regulatory requirements. Stay updated on changes in legislation and regulations affecting community associations.
  • Collections: Assist in the collection of delinquent assessments and fees from homeowners, including preparing demand letters and initiating foreclosure actions when necessary.
  • Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on legal matters, answering questions, and addressing concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research on relevant issues affecting community associations and prepare memoranda and opinions as needed.

  • Qualifications:


  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing, licensed in the state of Virginia
  • 2-5 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on real estate, property, or community association law preferred.
  • Strong understanding of community association governance, including governing documents and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Proven negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
