JOB DUTIES

This is a part-time facilities support position working with the nationally accredited Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The Department has eleven (11) diverse divisions that are committed to building gateways that enrich our community through exceptional customer focus. This facilities support position will work primarily at the Farmington Recreation Center and assist at the Sycamore Park Community Center as needed, maintaining and cleaning both of these facilities to provide the staff and patrons from the community a safe and healthy environment in which to work and play. This employee will provide exceptional customer service to the patrons, and offer support to the programs and events offered through the Recreation Division and the Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and the Recreation Supervisors

Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees and all members of the general public.

Performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the custodial maintenance of the Farmington Recreation Center and the Sycamore Park Community Center.

Cleans and keeps in an orderly condition the premises of the Farmington Recreation Center and the Sycamore Park Community Center, inside and outside.

Assists with the set up and tear down of equipment for events held at the Sycamore Park Community Center and the Farmington Recreation Center.

Janitorial duties include a combination of sweeping, vacuuming, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removal of all trash and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, and fixtures (vents, lights, windows, and blinds). Cleans rest rooms, meeting rooms, offices, gym, front lobby areas, and any other facility space as needed. Cleans all windows, doors, and entryways, inside and outside.

Performs simple maintenance duties not requiring practical skill and knowledge of a trade such as changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers, etc; as well as simple maintenance on equipment.

Assists in keeping cleaning supplies inventoried and stocked.

Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.

The position requires a person primarily to work alone and independently.

Friendly disposition and the ability to respond to patrons' needs.

No supervision is exercised in this position.

Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Works a varied schedule which may include weekends and evenings, as needed.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Assists with the procurement of needed supplies for ongoing classes and functions.

Works other related activities within the Farmington Recreation Center and Sycamore Park Community Center, or outside, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Extensive background checks required.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Thorough knowledge of custodial procedures and operations.

Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and compounds.

Ability to operate floor stripper, carpet shampooer, burnisher, vacuum cleaners and other cleaning equipment.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair on equipment and facilities.

Must be able to organize and maintain a variety of simultaneous projects and must be able to establish priorities as necessary.

Ability to communicate well with patrons at both Center facilities.

Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Experience in recreational activities preferred, but not necessary.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.

This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Floor stripper, carpet shampooer, burnisher, vacuum cleaners, and other cleaning equipment.

Operates a telephone, mobile radio and calculator.
