Omnitrans, provider of public mass transit for the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our award-winning team. The ideal Candidate hired will be under moderate direction, makes minor repairs and performs preventative maintenance on automobiles, motor coaches and related equipment. Must have a Class B permit with endorsements prior to first day of work.
Examples of Duties
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position:

  • Services vehicles by changing oil and oil filters, lubricates chassis.
  • Inspects vehicles for such defects as damaged or worn exhaust systems, leaking hoses, seals, pinion and rear axle seals, faulty wheel bearings, defective vehicle lighting brakes, windshield wipers and glass, and makes necessary repairs.
  • Removes and replaces radiators, radiator hoses, fan belts, water pumps, batteries, battery cables, alternators, voltage regulators, starters, and various other components.
  • Inspects, and replaces, wheel bearings, brake linings and pads, springs and all brake hardware as required.
  • Replaces fuses, mirrors and head, tail, clearance and parking lights, adjusts doors, windows and hoods.
  • Keeps record of work performed, parts used and time worked.
  • Assists Equipment Mechanic in higher level mechanical procedures.
  • Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
  • Works with alternate fuel.
  • Performs equipment inspections.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
The Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One or more years experience and/or formalized training in the servicing, maintenance and repair of light and heavy automotive and mechanical equipment, and a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Good knowledge of:
  • Basic vehicular mechanics; minor repairs and adjustment procedures.
  • Safe working practices related to all assigned job duties.
Ability to:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Read and understand policies, procedures and Agency regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Class B California Motor Vehicle Operator's License with passenger endorsements.
Tools:
  • Must provide all necessary tools up to " drive.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
The Selection Process

(A Class B license is not required to submit an employment application but a Class B permit or Class A or B License with passenger and air brake endorsement is required prior to the first day of employment).
