Job Description:

We are looking for Datacenter/Helpdesk Technicians with 6 months -3 years of data center experience, a great attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively. Within the data center, the candidates should have experience with installation and troubleshooting servers. Experience with Linux operating systems is a very nice to have. This is a 6-12 month renewable contract which will most likely be extended.

Candidates will be based in specific field locations in the Northern VA area, where they will support, deploy, and maintain Client's servers. The ideal candidate for this role balances technical skills, attention-to-detail, customer focus while following and establishing processes.

Prior experience with Linux operating systems and command lines is a very nice to have (even basic level). Must be able to work collaboratively with other technicians on the team.

Top Skills:

1.) Server and Hardware troubleshooting & break-fix experience, preferably within a Data Center Environment (6 months -2 years)

2.) Experience working with ticketing systems in an enterprise environment

3.) Excellent customer service and strong communication skills. Ability to work with little supervision

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to service tickets for servers in customer datacenters in a timely manner
  • Keep parts lockers up to date and properly stocked at all times
  • Troubleshoot and triage server failures to determine the most efficient path to getting a server back online for the customer
  • Track server fleet health and validate that Client is always exceeding customer requirements for total servers online
  • Provide consistent, detailed feedback to the Client engineering team on failures, serviceability of servers, and integration with the datacenter
  • Apply firmware and BIOS updates as needed using Clients' engineering-approved tools
  • Comply with all datacenter safety, security, and operational protocols at all times
  • Be an outstanding representative of TEKsystems at all times

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Customer Service - Ability to work independently with little guidance. Being a self started and able to be efficient while working remote
  • Ability to identify hardware failures and work within the limits of a defined process to get hardware running or replace entire servers
  • Ability to regularly lift and move server systems that weigh up to 70lbs
  • Fanatic attention to detail. Accuracy in inventory, trouble tickets, asset tag updates, wiring plans, etc. is essential to the customer and is critical to this role
  • Must be able and willing to travel
  • Linux terminal basic experience
  • Windows CMD basic experience.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated strong ownership, self-motivation and ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to work successfully with geographically dispersed teams

Education:

  • Degree in a computer-related field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred or 2 plus year of equivalent experience. Computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications, or related discipline
  • CompTIA A+ Certification
  • CompTIA Server+ Certification a plus
  • MCP/MCSE Certification a plus
