Department Summary

 

The IT Data, Analytics, & Insights organization is an enterprise team that is responsible for working collaboratively across various lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, Safety, Energy Procurement, etc.) and is focused on unlocking the value of PG&E’s data to support the company’s Wildfire Safety Program and True North Strategy. As part of that focus, we focus on delivering data and AI/ML centric products to support these initiatives. Some of the products that are being delivered include Remote Inspections, AI Enabled Inspections, Vegetation Management through LiDAR capabilities, Transmission Line Asset Master, Electric Distribution Asset Master, Asset Risk Modeling, and a Cloud Native Foundational Platform.

 

Position Summary

 

At PG&E, the Data and Analytics organization is focused on unlocking the value of PG&E’s data to support the company’s most pressing data needs. We deliver data and AI/ML centric products to improve the safety, reliability, and affordability of energy for PG&E’s customers. As a key member of our team, you will play an essential role in the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines, analytic products, which includes data applications, reports, and dashboards. You should be proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and help us scale our analytic product development and Operations to meet our clients' ever-evolving needs.

 

A critical part of how we operate is to apply design thinking, DevOps, Agile, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles and methodologies. Through these principles, we work as cross functional teams to help deliver and support valued data products to our business partners.

 

The role is hybrid working primarily from your remote office and the Oakland General Office, in-person, 1-2x monthly for collaboration or as business needs require.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Bay Area Minimum:        $128,000  

Bay Area Maximum:       $218,000

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manage Data Analytics Day-to-day Operations and it backlogs
  • Develop materials for, and lead presentations to, senior leadership 
  • Understand and effectively communicate how individual projects fit into a broad strategic landscape
  • Partner with internal clients to advance business processes, based on analytical findings 
  • Research and define users’ problem statements, use cases, and functional requirements 
  • Development of prioritized project plans, product roadmaps, and resource allocation needs
  • Facilitate on-time project completion by codifying roles and responsibilities 
  • Identification of project risks, followed by development of contingency plans 
  • Solve and document roadblocks the project team faces as part of continuous improvement efforts
  • Conduct user testing and product demo sessions as part of an iterative development process
  • Craft regular updates to leadership on project status, successes, and learnings
  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset by conducting after action retrospectives 
  • Work closely with leadership teams to identify ways to collaborate and meet business objectives
  • Articulate product goals and mission to key stakeholder teams to assure development of a product meets the business need
  • Identify product improvement needs based on customer feedback, measurement and evaluation reports, and internal ideation and gap analysis
  • Manage all key stakeholders and oversee development milestones with transparency; appropriately involve necessary stakeholders for sign-off processes involved for each milestone
  • Review all product deliverables to assure the offering is complete, meets specific needs, and includes optimal materials both in the box and on-line to assure customer satisfaction 
  • Possesses product management and subject matter (domain) expertise, a proficient thought leader
  • Established relationships with key industry contacts
  • Solves unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions
  • Support strategic planning and decision making, i.e., transformation strategies for product portfolio; Technology stack enablement; roadmap methodology, etc
  • May manage major cross-functional projects and initiatives
  • Root Cause Analysis and Investigation: Lead investigations into repetitive damage and failure rates, utilizing root cause analysis techniques. Implement corrective and preventive actions based on findings
  • Reliability and Capital Planning: Participate in annual and long-term reliability planning, ensuring alignment with operational objectives. Contribute to the development and execution of life cycle asset management processes
  • Technical Support and Collaboration: Provide applications engineering support to product teams. Collaborate with product teams, support teams, and customers on shared goals, cross-team projects, and new initiatives
  • Performance Monitoring and Improvement: Monitor, measure, and enhance the performance and state-awareness of systems. Identify and drive improvements in infrastructure and system reliability, performance, and monitoring
  • Data Analysis and Predictive Modeling: Perform statistical data analysis. Utilize data insights for capacity planning, demand forecasting, and identifying performance bottlenecks
  • Continuous Improvement and Standards Development:  Strive for continuous improvement in processes and reliability practices. Develop and evolve standards and procedures in response to business and customer needs
     

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

  • 5 years of related work experience
  • High school diploma or GED

 

Desired:

 

  • BA/BS in Computer Science/ Information Systems, Business, Engineering, etc. or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience in ITSM/ITIL principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to translate business desires into technical requirements and user stories
  • History of working on complex multi-stage projects with a diverse team 
  • Experience with relevant product management tools (Jira, Asana, etc.), version control tools (Git, Bitbucket. etc.), data science and machine learning tools/infrastructure (AWS suite of products, Jupyter, etc.), and methodologies (Agile, Design thinking, Kanban, etc.)
  • Experience using Agile methodology to develop a machine learning product
  • Experience conducting user research and using client feedback to inform a product roadmap
  • Project Management certifications (SaFe Agile, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, etc.) 
  • Ability to achieve a deep understanding of line of business strategies, priorities, needs, and current capabilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively to engage and influence business and IT stakeholders, senior leadership, and external partners
  • Customer management and negotiation skills that enable the ability to mediate opposing viewpoints and articulate the advantages of a preferred solution
  • Strong leadership skills in the technology domain and a high level of drive, initiative and assertiveness
  • Experience with any of the following: Data Architecture, Elastic Search, DBT, Airflow, Palantir Foundry, Data Quality tools, Collibra, MDM, Informatica, Spark, Snowflake, Teradata, SAP Business Warehouse, Business Objects Suite, Tableau, SAS Enterprise Miner, and other database and BI technologies, open-source Hadoop, and related technologies, data access languages such as SQL, SAS, R, Python, Scala, etc
  • Experience with UX research, design thinking (DT), or in bringing products to market
  • Experience working in the Utility Industry and a working knowledge of Utility concepts and challenges a plus
