Summary

The Urology Psychologist will provide screening, assessment, intervention, and referral for patients of the Urology Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. The Urology Psychologist will provide brief intervention to promote treatment engagement, coping and adaptation, as well as longer-term follow-up with a caseload of outpatient psychotherapy for patients of the Urology Clinic.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
  2. Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
  3. Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  4. Conducts psychological assessments and/or tests for diagnostic purposes intervention, and referral purposes.
  5. Develops an individualized treatment plan for each child.
  6. Educates family members on developmentally normative responses to medical conditions and treatment. Provides education to caregivers on strategies to promote treatment engagement and adaptation to medical conditions. On what they can do for their child or how to respond to certain behaviors.
  7. Helps with research projects, including and not limited to obtaining IRB permission and renewals, assisting in writing projects and papers/abstracts, collecting data, interpreting data, etc.
  8. Screens and assesses for the presence of substance use, substance misuse, and addiction and provide appropriate intervention and referral.
  9. Coordinates with other child health experts, including urologists, nurse practitioners, child life, nurses, child protection workers, pediatricians and social workers to facilitate and ensure the psychological development of a child.
  10. Organizes educational programs for patients, families, or medical team members as requested by the Urology team.
  11. Addresses psychosocial and educational concerns such as familial, peer, educational, and neurodevelopment concerns, by providing appropriate psychological intervention and referral as needed.
  12. Provides complete documentation and records of assessments and treatments according to in-house policies.
  13. Provides a continuous presence in outpatient Urology Clinics including differences/disorders of sex development (DSD), voiding dysfunction and stone clinics
  14. Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Applicants should hold a doctoral degree from an APA- or CPA-accredited program. Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited internship and a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology is required.

Certifications

Required: Licensed Psychologist

Experience

Successful applicants will have experience working with multidisciplinary teams and children and families in medical settings. Interests in research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service line development is desired.
