ROLE: Senior Tax Associate

Leading real estate investment and development firm seeks a full-time senior tax associate to join the Corporate Finance Department.

The position will report into the Director of Tax & Finance and be located in the Lakewood NJ office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

The Senior Tax Associate will report to the Director of Tax and Finance, and have the following primary responsibilities:

Manage various tax compliance, tax strategic planning, and other tax related activities:

  • Oversee tax compliance process, including extensions, estimates and tax returns, coordinating with internal accounting teams and external tax advisors
  • Calculate tax gain on sales of assets; calculate requirements for Section 1031 like-kind exchanges to defer recognition of gains
  • File monthly and quarterly NY Sales tax returns for five hotel entities based in New York City.
  • Monitor multi-year tax projections, using reforecast financials on a quarterly basis, for each of Lightstone’s five REITs to ensure appropriate dividend coverage for taxable income distribution requirements
  • Ensure quarterly and annual REIT compliance tests are satisfied across Lightstone’s five REITs
  • Calculate quarterly tax accrual entries for REIT and TRS entities
  • Address tax notices from all jurisdictions to ensure proper credits and payments are applied
  • Periodically review sub-lease agreements between Taxable REIT Subsidiaries (TRS’s) and hotel fee owners in our REIT portfolios
  • Manage and coordinate tax audits of income tax, sales & use tax, franchise tax, etc.
  • Calculate periodic taxable income estimates for various JV partners
  • Prepare W-9s, POAs and other simple tax forms for requesting vendors

KEY ATTRIBUTES/EXPERIENCE

  • 5 + years tax experience at large or regional CPA firm or real estate company. CPA and /or masters in tax preferred but not required.
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Real Estate Finance/Tax
